Psychiatric care is the third rail of the universal healthcare debate, and ironically it’s the one topic where the sides are switched. We closed the asylums because the excesses of the mental health industrial complex were too striking to ignore. Forced imprisonment without due process being decided by a panel of experts, obscene experimental treatments like lobotomies and shock therapy, mandatory medication with compounds whose mechanism of action are not understood. The closure of the asylums for these reasons and more are the greatest illustration of what anti universal healthcare activists argue against. And yet nobody on either side gets it. The right wing is largely in favor of bringing the asylums back, while the leftwing fears they would become a callous and inhuman bureaucracy used to trample on human rights. They completely invert their positions on the healthcare debate for this one issue and neither side is aware of their hypocrisy.

There is a reason that any psychologist or psychiatrist who actually encourages the expansion of consciousness or meaningful personal growth gets dismissed from the normiesphere as a mystic or a psychonaut or (surprise surprise) an antisemite.
