In the Spanish Civil War alone, the Stalinists fighting for the Republicans purged a ton of their fellow socialists on the same side who weren't Marxists and especially if they weren't Stalinists, weakening a lot of the internal and public morale for the Republican cause (and is one of the reasons there were people who, by their beliefs and ideology, should have been fighting with the Republicans, but fought with the Nationalists instead). National socialism grew out of a disdain for Marxism and its destruction, and especially the Soviet implementation of Marxism and their propagation of their ideology through Western Europe.
