What does that mean. When I was 8 I could easily read the encyclopedia and understand what it was saying, trilobites etc. It didn't change when I was 11. Maybe people can't visualize what they are reading. Before I ever went to kindergarten I vividly remember a little golden book my mom read to me and one day the words became really clear to my brain and eyes and I read it and went running through the house yelling I can read. It wasn't halting it was I read these words. Have two MS degrees from reading, synthesizing it in my own words and writing essays with cites. When people use the word "literacy" today they're not talking about actual literacy. Actual literacy is grammar, logic and rhetoric, which is suppressed for the masses. There's a difference between "reading" and reading, between "literacy" and literacy. Actual literacy requires a classical education, which includes the Trivium. Hardly anyone is actually literate today. There were actually more literate people in the 19th century.
