The cost of the energy.

Most people can afford at least one or two these window units that will cool a large living room, but they can't afford to run them all day, or they get an astronomical electricity bill.
Germans rightfully see AC as a waste of money because it's rare for them to experience temperatures higher than 30ºC.

I've got two of these portable ACs but rarely run them unless the heat gets pretty bad, and only in the hottest hours of the day or if I've got visitors.

Real gooks are actually terrified of these things, unlike anyone else (except maybe other asians). Northern western Europe's power grid just can't cope with everyone having them so their politicians rationalize it as fighting the climate change or whatever instead of trying to fix it. Apparently the same is true in New York so Amerikwans really shouldn't be smug about it.
>>
>>538322748
There's another coming
>>
>>538322974
Yeah, this is exactly what I wanted to get at. This is exactly why North Americans pay such high rent prices.
Utilities being included in your rent means that if they have to pay your electricity, water and other utilities they'll have to overcharge you for them into oblivion.

You may as well use it because you're gonna be forced to pay for it in much higher rent prices.
Europeans get to choose if they want to pay for AC or not, for you, it's mandatory.

Personally, I wish he'd just make 'rape day' because everyone there that supports his ass deserves to be raped.

I think there's a schism in the way Americans and Euros see it. To an American, a senior citizen dying from heat is seen as avoidable. To Euros, I think they see it as natural. That it's just the way it is, if it's hot out and you've reached an age where your biology can't tolerate the natural world then it's tragic but expected.

To America... a senior citizen dying from heat or cold is seen as..... a lost revenue to the pharmaceutical and care industry.
A revenue that can no longer be exploited.
Reminder....Europe has a health care system that is mostly free....and our life expectancy is 5 years longer than Americans.

>>
>>538323896
Even if it wasn't immigrants that are needed to grow the economy because of low birth rates, it would be Americans raising the rent or housing costs if the population grew. The reason rent/houses are expensive is because little is done to make more houses available because that would cut the wealth of property owners. America is huge, we can build more properties there's plenty of space.

heating at this temp seems like a suicide
dehumidifier would be a better idea. And since dehumidifiers are just heatpumps, you might go the extra mile and install split. You can use it to dehumidify air in the fall. Although normal dehumidifier has the benefit of also being a net gain to temperature.

Don't be I just don't care enough to get into a long drawn debate. The space exists even considering the national parks and areas that Trump until recently wanted to sell off to develop.

This is such a shit take. Do you literally never go outside? Do you control the temperature when you hiking in the woods or swimming in a lake, or is your country too hostile for that.
Nothing comfier than coming home from a hike through the snow and chill under a blanket. All the time when it is hot, I go outside, if it's too warm just jump in the water.

If for some reason the government in the US wants to keep you guys down they just cut electricity because you can't survive fluctuating temperatures.
How is that better quality of life.
(Many people own ACs here)

in europe we've got tilted windows, so window units aren't suited for those
>>
>>538332854
although I could make it work with some plywood. But buying one in Europe is another matter. No one sells those here

nvm, I checked, and they're available, but they cost 2x what split would cost

Or hes just a lying gay frog. Geothermal is extremely expensive also it pretty much doesnt work when temps get really extreme.
>have friend whos family is rich
>have beautiful house in whitefish MT
>hurr lets do geothermal cuz muh mother earth
>blizzard comes
>hmmm wonder why the wood stove is on
>line in heat exchange field cracked and no glycol

If you are cold just get a toyostove with a build in tank. I had an RV I would heat for $1.50 a day in subfreezing winters and was comfy wumfy

Sorry to say that new Dutch apartments are exactly the same.
I even opened my windows at -2°C because 22° was feeling a little toasty. The heaters have never been turned on. Completely redundant.
In fact today I woke up to find the thermometer indicated 29°C. It hasn't even been 29 in a week, and I've had the windows open from sundown to dawn every single night.

People talk an awful lot about the heat itself in these threads but the architects really deserve the rage.
They designed the buildings to heatmaxx for the energy rating so the renting corporation gets the best percentages on the loans required to build these prisons, and as part of that effort completely failed to install ways of getting rid of the heat.

Most of the retards who bought air conditioning units over the past week will be trying to take them back for a refund now.

Nah I wouldnt recommend. Compressors prefer to be level last I checked. Its why they say let a freezer or fridge sit for 12 hours before plugin. They really dont make shit easy there. I can see why poland wants to be a US outpost. I dont blame em. German bureaucracy is hell, UK is a police state, france only gets a pass cuz they have the least cucked gun laws but its pretty much algeria in the cities.

Visiting frankfurt was like walking into another dimension of what in the fuck. Might as well rename it to Judeo-Liberalis.

Geothermal is pretty common here. Even in the north, maybe they have a shitty installation?
>>
>>538333151
Agreed, houses need to breathe for longevity. I am planning on putting a metal roof on my house but want to instal a cupola to help with the venting.

Make sure to block the sun, that's the culprit. I had a 7.2mx3m window facing the south in my apartment in Eindhoven. Basically had to keep the curtains closed all the time. Though we put the floor cooling to max that helped just a lot of condensation near the meter. Not my problem.

One question sven.....fucking why? You could buy a toyo for 3k and be done with it but in order to account for frost levels (what my friends family didnt do) you end up paying close to 20k. Unless you are close to a hot spring its a meme.

Geothermal is pretty common here, I know several people who have it. Never heard any complains.
The only horror story I heard (by hearsay, not anyone I know), was of someone who got garden work done with machinery and forgot he had pipes underground.
It's an upfront investment, but the operating cost is much lower than an air unit.

tilted windows can open to the side. the unit would be leveled. It's just not as easy to install as with slide windows

electricity is expensive in yurop. you earn it back in a few years.
also, it's nowhere close to 20k. my brother paid not even half that.
