It wouldn't surprise me if there were several generals and battalions that were straight up paid off to just surrender or not do anything during a military operation. Said corruption also lead to equipment being sold off or being in an unusable state.Russia is also caught in an unfortunate moment in time where combined arms warfare is really ineffective where drones and air superiority reigns supreme, and their doctrine just isn't suited for that style of warfare.The Ukraine is also not completely alone as it has the backing of America and European power brokers who want to see Russia destroyed, so it has all the funds and military equipment it needs on top of having their armies coordinated by said polities. Really the only reason NATO hasn't just straight up declared war and invaded Russia is because of nukes so a proxy war is the only option.
