I used to live in the DC area for over a decade and I'm gonna be honest. That stupid pool is one of the worst ideas ever created. It's a recipe for disaster. They used to fill it with potable city water but that was quickly recognized as being wasteful and filled up with algae anyways. Since the mid 20th century it's been slowly refilled by river water while draining into the surroundings but that's obviously a recipe for even more algae. Now it's filled with chemicals and plastic.
