Their fundamental belief that there is no independent essence, soul, or self within any human being or phenomenon which stems from an old passage that was actually using negation to define the actual existing "soul", just as being non specific and unobtainable from a materialistic standpoint. As in you literally cannot "hold a soul" in your hands. The more you abnegate self, the more true being flows into you to take its place. Perfection compassion is only possible through perfectly selflessness. It's in no way nihilistic, life denying or atheistic. You just have to understand that perfect objectivity and perfect love are the same thing, and it all makes perfect sense.
