2010’s were at the cusp of when shit went bad. Simple truth:Things started going downhill in 2008. At that time big banks were starting to collapse- this was caused risky gambles spurred on by the greed of bankers. The government deemed these big banks as “too big to fail” and used our tax dollars to bail them out and those greedy banks got golden parachutes $$$$ to keep them whole. Simultaneously, many Americans who were seduced by the promise from the banks and greedy bankers that their homes were ATM machines with unlimited money to draw out were hung out to dry and lost their homes. Stupid choice? Yes and they paid for it. The bankers didn’t. 401ks got hit hard and many Americans lost thousands on their retirement- as a result of the greed of the same banks and bankers saved by the government. Conservatives and liberals equally realize that political nuances were bullshit. The real enemies were the bankers and politicians that enabled them to rip off ever day Americans with little or no consequence. The corporations that run the media and the banks and pay off politicians reacted swiftly steering the conversation away from the real problem (a rigged political system that favors the rich and powerful) towards various “cultural wars” that subsequently pitted average Americans against each other. Social media was coming into its own and this became a primary tool fueling these culture wars. In the end the corrupt system won as average people fight over “conservativism” “liberalism “ “socialism “ migrants, trans, gays etc. (yet pedophiles are ignored…). Once you accept this, the world going to shit makes perfect sense.
