Before Merz was elected he was strongly opposed to changing the constitution to lift Germany debt brake. He even campaigned that the debt brake protects the future of younger voters by forcing the government to have a balanced budget.
Then after he was elected and during the interim period before the newly government is installed, he does a 180 degree turn and teams up with the outgoing government to vote amend the constitution to allow Germany to take on more debt.
