Putin did not want russians to be wealthy. Putin wanted Ukraine as his personal property. Last year, thwarted he seized a third of a TRILLION dollars in business assets from Russians instead and kept it for himself becoming the worlds richest man. All politicians and givernments are similar, putins wealth is hardly reported because they are all at it too. This is why Elon Musks reported net worth was bumped up a few months ago, its not real but Elon likes the publicity.
So i posted here years ago before the ukraine war after coming back from one of my holidays on greek islands where i try to go as often as i can in summer. I told how i had been surprised that while staying in a 5* luxury beach resort a coach had arrived from the airport full of big faced weirdo’s wearing orange and black ribbons who all got so blind drunk immediately upon arriving that the Protaras strip was dotted with them the next morning all passed out from drinking. I asked how russians (as that is what they were) can afford to stay in the type of resort that i pay for, holidaying with a group of business millionaires. Its not a cheap passtime. A few weeks ago i was dancing in a tiny beach bar sharing space with chris de burgh, who was staying at the same marina. Often there are hollywood stars at the clubs and marinas on the islands. I was told this about the russians when i got back and asked the internet to explain how russians were appearing at island resorts……there is a section of russia who are service providers who do very well, they provide services to the oligarchy and live mainly in Moscow. The rest of the proles still live in poverty and are used by this service section. They work for basically not much more than a sack of potatoes a year. THAT is what putin wants. If it wasn’t then it wouldn’t be so, this situation would not exist. Since 2022 you no longer see russians on the islands. They have fully vanished again.
