What are the downsides for a young man being raised by a single mom?This trend seems to be increasing so I wonder what societal, and also personal, effects it has.

I mean I know a few sons of single mothers who turned out alright but they were partial custody kids whose parents didn't have particularly ugly divorces. The ones who grow up fully with no dad in the picture often end up manchildren or criminals in my experience. One was a criminal but after getting caught breaking and entering a house, they got sent to live and work on a farm with their grandpa and then he got pretty straightened out.
Children that live in a single mother household are more likely to have depression, more likely to go to jail, more likely to be school dropouts, more likely to be in poverty. These chances increase massively if these are boys instead of girls.
In myself I notice lack of father figure lead lack of learning financial stability as well as general direction in life was fucked until the Army right out of high school.

The first step is not understanding the "how", it's understanding the "what".Simple statistics show that children of single mothers have across-the-board worse life outcomes, be it happiness, money, crime rates, IQ, or 'success' (though I forget how they measured that one).
