the passage of the hart-celler act significantly devalued labor. inflation has masked this fact. though the minimum and average wage is much higher than it was historically, that increase is not commensurate with the increased costs of living. not even close
>>
A not-wealthy boomer is a loser, how did some even manage to not become rich, housing went up 820% faster than inflation between 1975 and 2025. The stock market averaged 12.3% over that same half a century. For a boomer to not be rich is incredibly pathetic. This guy was a druggy, a gambling addict, an ex convict, something like that, all they had to do to become unfathomably wealthy is not screw up literally everything in life. If he picked one single thing in life to not screw up he was a millionaire, anything. If he put 6 months income in the stock market at any moment he was now a millionaire, if he bought the most pathetic home of his generation he was now a millionaire. If he held a job for longer than 12 months at any time during the last 50 years he was now a millionaire.

My dad bought a 6 bed house stocking shelves at a grocery store for one year and the land without house is now valued at 2.1 million euros

Excellent, the jewish mind tricks on social media have worked swimmingly.
Now all White people hate their parents and grandparents, further deteriorating the family unit and discouraging White people from creating new White children of their own, because what does family matter for anyways. The jews have paved the way for this hate.
Meanwhile brownoids are deeply family integrated and the young adult brownoids continue to pump out brown babies because the grandparents happily babysit. While young White adults hate their parents, thanks to jewish social programming, excellent!

Somebody has to pay the piper eventually or the piper tears your face off. Debt forgiveness isn't an option unless you have to power to kill the lender, which you don't because lending is a system and not a person that can be killed. Starting a better system from scratch sounds like an alluring possibility until you realize you'll never live long enough to benefit from it.

I’m no economist, but disparities in purchasing power is REALLY hard to quantify from what I understand. Personally, I doubt it’s as extreme as the OP is claiming. There are too many variables to account for. If you want to get a better understanding, compare the average price of a home as a percentage of the average income between price periods, or maybe even the cost of a product which hasn’t changed much, such as a hamburger or steak, between the time periods in question. Again, I’m no economist but this is what makes the most sense to me.

A big mac in 1970 cost approximately 50 cents. Today, it is about $5.50, an approximately 11x increase in cost. That’s also ignoring the fact they were probably a higher quality product 56 years ago.

The average price of a home in the U.S. in 1970 was approximately $27,000, compared to ~$515,000 today, representing a ~19x increase.

In 1970, the average cost of a car in the U.S. was ~$4000, compared to ~$49,000 today, a 12.25x increase.

Averaging out those 3 percentages gives us a 14x increase, or in other words the costs of these goods has risen 1,300% in the past 56 years. This is ignoring the cost of services and intangible things like insurance. The average hourly wage in 1970 was $3.50/hr, multiply that times 14 and you get 49.

I think it’s fair to say the average worker in the U.S. earned the equivalent of about $50/hr, compared to ~32/h today. The median hourly wage in 2026 is closer to $25/h, though

This math was fast and loose, and I used chatgpt to get my statistics, so make of that what you will

I know, my relatives in the 65-80 age bracket spend more on 'trinkets' than I do on mortgage + car + college for my kids combined. They pile it up in the garage, often rent garages to pile it up more. Just random shit. New car every 3-4 years too, and all of them get banged up because they should have quit driving 10 years ago. My boomer uncle is pushing 85, has his drivers license revoked 10 years ago for medical reason, he kept driving without a license, just bought a new big-ass plugin hybrid SUV with a million horsepower and doesnt have a drivers license. That thing will be covered in dents and dings from hitting shit while parking and if he ever runs over a kid without a license his kids will pay that bill too. we do have one substantial economic advantage over boomers : information. if boomers wanted a new lawn mower, or a tv, they went to the nearest lawnmower or tv store, the salesman told them a fairy tale and sell a $200 mower for $3000. Lawnmower dealerships in nearby towns were in on the scam. We go online and find the best lawn mower on earth 90% off delivered to our door next day. Our only economic advantage over previous generations is we dont get scammed or ripped off, they got scammed and ripped off 365 days a year.

Big tech is trying to take this one advantage we have away from us by replacing the internet with AI.

>>
>>538525824
Absolutely. Cars were absolute shit in the 70’s. However, Americans still had purchasing power, meaning consumers could be choosy. The hart celler act had only been passed 5 years ago, so the floodgates from the third world were not yet fully open, meaning companies couldn’t just pump out garbage for shitskins with low standards. Houses generally sucked too, but the consumers for those industries were semi-captive, and when industry works in lock step they could all afford to cheap out. However, from what I have intimated in conversation with older relatives, food and consumer goods were of much better quality.

>Americans still had purchasing power
Wrong, Americans "gained" purchasing power at the expense of switching to a credit-based currency. The single-largest contributing factor to our current problem, lack of purchasing power is due to accumulating debt faster than it is paid off. Like I said earlier, debt doesn't just disappear when people don't pay it, someone else is placed on the hook for it.

I used to work for IGT, the manufacturer of like half of America's slot machines. They make 'cashnado'. It's fucking sad seeing people interact with these things as if the outcomes aren't known well in advance. Even the 'bonus credits' you get from tapping at the screen are pre-calculated maximums that don't really offer any serious advantage. It may as well be any other bonus, except you have to paw at the screen like a monkey to secure it.
We would pre-generate batches of 10-50 outcomes for each machine, then send them to the machine to 'play out'. There was nothing happening on the machine at all. It was all predetermined, and there was zero randomness happening at the machine itself.
It always seems weird to people when they realize the whole experience is pre-calculated at a central server, then batched out to each machine. Your spins do nothing but count down how many are left in the batch before a new batch is pushed.
I realize it's technically no different than having the machine do the 'spin'. It's all just random. But something about how the whole thing is following an odds algorithm hosted at a central server just steals the magic of slot machines.
My mother in law spends hours at the slots now. It's like her entertainment in retirement. It's just sad to see.
>>

It's true a shitload of boomies are rich, but sometimes all it requires is one instance of bad luck. A boomie friend of my parents got his wife crash in one of her cessna (yeah, they got multiples fun planes) and ended up a vegetable a decade ago and he legit spent over a milli just to keep her "alive" in some private clinic.
That was the plan all along : let the boomers fatten up then steal everything from them via healthcare scams before their millenial kids could inherit the jackpot. The ones getting fucked are us.

I also worked in a slightly less regulated variant of the slot machine world. And we used to tweak people's odds right after they spent money. It was intentional, with the intent of triggering that Pavlovian association between paying and winning.
The more they spent, the more we'd tweak the odds in their favor. It'd cool down after a while. We'd step them down gradually to keep them feeling like winners for longer after big spends.
Obviously that kind of manipulation is not allowed at IGT. So I'm not saying IGT does this. In fact, our relationship with IGT meant that we had to stop doing it.
But that didn't stop us from using dozens and dozens of known psychological techniques to squeeze more money out of people.
We would even offer $100 free for any new player who'd never registered a card with us before. Our payment processor was generating so much fucking money just from their cut of our payments that they reached out and said "we will directly reimburse you for every $100 offer accepted if you run this special for a few months".
The reason being, for every person we convinced to start using their credit/debit card, it multiplied their likelihood of spending more cash in perpetuity.
>>538527109
Yep, that's all it was. If you could look into the cache on the machine, you'd see exactly how much you were going to make/lose over the next 5 minutes of 'spinning'.
Hell, you could get a lifetime of results back in under 1 second of processing. In fact, it would have been funny to see what happens if you asked for, say, 500,000 spins from the central server. You could plot out the entire career of a single compulsive gambler spanning multiple decades. Kind of grim if you think about it.
They'd spend hours and hours playing out a scenario that was calculated on a server in under a second. Tragic. Spending away a lifetime of savings on a silly charade.

To all you neets and assorted lazy faggots: do you think this guy thought he'd be working at his age?
That man most likely worked most of his life, and lived through much easier times, and this is still where he ended up.
Do you neets and lazy, whiny faggots really think you're gonna make it through life being the way you are?

This, but they dont believe alcohol or pharmakike shit are drugs. My dad is broke after making 30k a month and not raising or supporting a single one of his kids. All of his money was blown on alcohol, hookers, and chemo for cancer. His doctors kept telling him he was going to die in a month if he didnt get it. Then after years of that same story over and over, he eventually ran out of money and stopped getting the chemo and magically just kept on living for years still. Now he's trying to guilt me into giving him money, despite me having to wait until my mid 30s to be able to afford to have just 1 child of my own and a small home that I luckily bought in 2016 when they were somewhat reasonable. He wants me to spread his ashes on a lake named after our grandpa when he eventually does die from being a drunk fatass, but I'm probably just going to throw them away if I even deal with that shit at all.
>>
>>538518276
He fucked around his entire life, didn't save a penny, made all his whims and wishes come true, probably never sacrificed anything for the betterment of his future and now he's old and broke so he has to work.
And anyone who feels remorse is a fucking retard.

>capitalism is when inflation caused by poor central management of the economic and monetary systems inflates prices so badly that fixed income retirees are forced to work again
the desperation to frame the current situation as "capitalism" is palpable. Hint, it's the jews.
>>
>>538533431
realistically he bought multiple homes and uses the money he makes from doordash to pay off his houses while he sits on them to sell high.
>>
>>538518276
I mean... on the one hand it could be tragic if they're being forced to work to support themselves... on the other hand, they might have chosen to work. Getting old sucks and a lot of older people get jobs to feel useful.

My old man was a teacher; he made it two years into retirement before he got so bored he took a minimum wage job at the library to keep busy.

Has nothing to do with capitalism. If this were an ideal communistic state this dumbfuck would still be running an illegal business for extra credits under the table. The issue isn't the economic system, it's his judgement. He'd piss away his rations and still be hustling for more no matter what because that's what people born of his mold do. You can't change human nature. When you grow up a little and meet a more diverse slate of people over time you'll come to realize this too.
>>
>>538524348
The way inflation is measured has changed every year because people would get pissed off otherwise. A pound of bone in ribeye became a pound of ribeye because a pound of "steak" which was strip and then sirloin and then chuck and then ground beef. Those substitutions in all facets is how they manipulate the numbers. Which is why if you want objective true inflation numbers yoy you look at M2 money supply or track your own expenses to calculate the actual inflation rate that affects you. Price of a new car or concert tickets or airplane tickets don't really affect me so if you go by CPI it factors in bullshit like that. You can track your own receipts and expenses, which you should do anyways to see your general expenses, to see how inflation affects you directly instead of trusting a kike with a calculator.
>>
>>538534064
this guy bought his real-estate in the 80s and 90s. thats why he's not selling now, and is instead working for doordash to cover his expenses.
>>
>>538534817
Well not to mention the CPI grossly overweights things like consumer electronics hardware which until very recently were basically unaffected by inflation and were often being sold at losses and recouping money through other means. Every couple years things which can be seen to not be inflation resistant get dropped from the set leaving behind only things which are for one reason or another mostly unaffected. I'm sure this all happens by complete coincidence :^)
>>
>>538518276
Fuck old people. You[re supposed to have kids and empower those kids so they take care of your sorry ass.
>>
>>538534817
You can also just go by gold. I've been told my entire life that gold isn't a good investment because it only tracks inflation and never makes real gains..... And yet now suddenly people claim indexing prices to gold is bullshit and wrong all of a sudden lol.

>>538535667
People saying buy gold to make money were being called retards. Anyone saying buying gold will not hold well against inflation is retarded. Your money will keep value but you also have to consider if you sell back to pawn shops or gold shops they will usually offer 85% to 90% of street price. Most people that sell will resell this way so have to keep that in mind.

My grandpa is like this owns two homes multiple Harley’s, hot tub, pool, expensive biker style leather jackets and gear, new cars every 3-4 years.

He will brag to this day about how he dropped out of high school and went from a janitor to the head of maintenance at the VA. He started in the mid terms 60s he’s got like 4 pensions and draws social security, he pulls in like 120k a year doing nothing and he rents one of his properties to his grand niece.

He did get a job after he left the VA out of boredom and got fired for calling someone a nigger when referring to them off hand and got fired so that’s kind of based

I’ve been telling people that home equity is a meme unless you truly exit the market. Almost every boomer and half of Gen X I know who has a paid off home can’t afford to maintain it. It would be a nightmare to have like 75% or more of your net worth in a home.
>>
When I was doing it I would meet the occasional boomer who was doing it too. They always want to talk to fellow dashers like they're in some kind of club. The ones I talked to absolutely did not need the money. One guy told me he does it just to get out of the house. Another guy told me his wife wouldn't let him spend their money on beer so he had to go make extra cash... To drink beer. Thanks boomer. I could have gotten a stacked order and made 3x the money. The people in their 20s out here trying to make rent could have had sufficient work. But no problem I'm glad you were able to get out of the 40k house that you refuse to sell below 1.4 million. Enjoy your Budweiser, you piece of shits.

>>
>>538528629
If you are young, having an insane equity package hit at a startup. If that doesn’t happen, it comes from investing over a long period of time. If you have 3 mil invested the 4% rule you could pull 120 per year out and have it last a good while. This isn’t rocket science, it just takes time
>>
>>538518276

You have in your pocket about 10% of the entire world's computing power in 1970. To purchase that kind of power then versus today would have cost you about 30 million times as much.
