That some office worker can delete 5 emails in the time that it once took to throw away a postal letter isn't productivity. Nor are the "billionaire class" stealing all the gains... because there aren't any gains. We used to make everything, we used to make so much of it that we sold it everywhere around the world. Now China makes everything, and we ship it in. And it's not good products. Plastic's been traded for cloth, chink engineers revel in trying to make goods even flimsier that will fall apart more quickly. Why would a nation that makes nothing and wants to have everything ever be wealthy? Do we make 5 times as many microwave ovens? Do we saw five times as many logs into lumber? Do we build five times as many cars? Or homes? Do we grow five times as many potatoes? The only thing I can say with any confidence is that we have five times as many immigrants, which when you aren't really growing any more food than you used to is a recipe for groceries to cost a hell of a lot more.
