100k isnt a lot by any standard today. Thats 60k a year or so, roughly 5000k a month after taxes. Average rent at a mid tier place in even "cheap" states like texas is 2000$. Now you have 3000$ a month, now factor in every other expense like food or anything else taking your nickles and dimes. Maybe its enough to get by up until you have a medical emergency but then youre fucked. Thats just being a single man, imagine supporting a stay at home mom at the same time or child support. "We need to raise taxes so poor people have easier lives" translates to "We need to give more money to black people because they had to endure slavery." You will also see childless whites who are huge activists for public schools despite having an antinatalist mentality.
