Someone should do the math, but it's pretty certain that some data centers will lead to residents of these states not being able to afford air conditioning in the summer. Because our enemies who don't have the same morals are already fully embracing and using AI to its extreme meanwhile outside forces have convinced us that AI and the use of it is the worst thing ever. Its a race for the powerful country to get a grasp on the most powerful AI because that will determine warfare in the future.Now, in this race is there an ethical way to do it? I don't know. I'm not sitting in the chair. I would say that these companies that are displacing families should be offering them top dollar instead of trying to screw them in an already horrible situation, but in terms of locations? I'd wager there is a reason they can't just drop them out of peoples ways in the middle of some random forest. A "necessary evil" is what we are looking at, but everyone just keeps thinking of it on a small scale. They aren't seeing the larger geopolitical issues on falling behind in this area because data centers/ai just immediately register as "bad" the same way a gun or a nuclear bomb does when they don't think about the deterrence they bring. Of course, in a perfect world perhaps there would be an honest dialogue between the people in charge and the people who followed them as to matters like this.
