Is football even allowed in Islam? I doubt it. Maybe it's allowed to play it for exercise, but something like World Cup has to be haram for a bunch of reasons.

Implying everything Saudis too is Islamic. The clerics are there to teach Islam AND to rubberstamp what the rulers decide.

There are many obvious problems with football, Islamically. Just some that immediately come to mind about the World Cup:
- viewer is exposed to immodest dress (both male and female)
- it is commercial and/or involves betting
- it is a waste of time and energy that could be used to more Islamically acceptable purposes
- it promotes nationalism/tribalism and the ills that follow from such
- studies show heading the ball frequently causes brain damage (one reason why boxing is extremely haram in Islam, which is ironic given famous convert Muhammad Ali etc.)
I'm sure there are many more things about World Cup and pro football that violate Islam.
