Once you got through OSUT training, it was like a boring job on with extra rules. My 4 years national guard was 1 weekend of a PT test, cleaning the armory grounds, painting shit, going in the field for 2 weeks a year playing on the tanks. I spent the 6 years of my entire enlistment in Kentucky. Was never shipped out of state. The $10k bonus I got at the end of my contract to buy 5 acres, the $4k I was able to squirrel away over those years to build a small 1 bedroom cabin I still live in to this day.Been a part time security guard at a local company that does mining and quarrying ever since I got out the Army in 2000. All I've done the past 25ish years is sit on a mountain on a coal mine in the middle of nowhere 3 nights a week for 12 hours.
