>The "Arena-M" active protection system is capable of intercepting FPV drones and barrage munitions, — writes "Izvestia" citing the developers of the complex.
>The modernized active protection system "Arena-M" (index T09-A6-1) consists of a radar, adapted among other things for detecting drones, and 12 launchers with counter-munitions. The APS is installed on T-90M and T-72B3A tanks and has already been spotted several times in the zone of the special military operation
>If these statements by the developers are true, the presence of a serial APS capable of intercepting FPV drones will significantly increase the survivability of the tank on the modern battlefield and could potentially return it to its role as the main breakthrough vehicle.
>Moreover, its appearance on other equipment is not ruled out. However, the key question, as always, lies in the actual practical application of the system.

Arena-M spotted on T-72B3A. Looks like they are able to keep APS plus a cage over the hatches (middle part of the tank).
Since Arena-M APS only has to launch vertically and cover a "zone" and have per-designated area's to look at, compared to the Chinese APS or Israeli Trophy system, the explosive is on a swivel where it aims at a incoming projectile, obstruction is more important in these kinds of designs.

>Why don't you have mature democracies, like we have in NATO (just ignore us directly attacking or supporting conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iran)?
I'd include overthrowing of elected regimes here, like the Ukraine, Vuvuzela etc.

Heck, NATO even overthrew the elected regime in Finland to install Sanna Marin.
But as far as war is concerned, the biggest reason NATO doesn't outright invade or attack Russia or other big nations is because they can't.
The reason they do the piracy and allow drone overflights is not really about hurting Russia, it is to show to their own populations and sponsors that they are actually NOT weaklings, but stronk!
Who knows, maybe it is even to convince themselves of it.

>We've been seeing multiple new APS systems being developed simultaneously by Russia
What other ones? I think I saw a variant of Arena-M where it had a huge ammo dispenser about like 8 feet long on the sides of the tank just to carry more APS rounds. Kinda how they use to carry ERA bags on the side, but instead, it was a APS ammo holder. Since Arena launches vertically, seem easier to carry more compared to Trophy where it has to reload and a limited ammo storage/reload system, and the Chinese ones well their tanks have a bit more space to carry larger than 2x or 4x, probably even able to carry 6x or even 8x on each swivel if they really wanted too.

I think Turkish ones blow up via just proximity and they are placed on the permiters of the tank, but they also swivel aps so I think they switched to that.
Personally I am waiting to see how well the Kourior UGV performs and a version that will be larger that eventually will carry 20/30mm. Right now the Kourior isnt a bad size.

>If russia can't stop these drones flying thousands of kilometres across it's territory to smack key facilities it's going to collapse economically before it can bleed the ukranians dry. This is actually fucking embarassing. Being unable to stop a drone saturation attacks at the front is one thing, a fat slow drone flying unmolested across thousands of kilometres of your own territory to blow up something critical is another thing altogether.
basic level of spatial awareness kind of points to the fact that you're low IQ

it's far easier to detect a flying object in a smaller search area (at the front) than it is to detect something tiny in an endless sea of airspace that stretches for thousands of kilometers wide and low.

For this very reason it's difficult to detect boats in an ocean, and easy to detect boats in a lake.
I sometimes wonder if you guys finished middle school

The briefest description of it I can give is when some westerner gets onto a ((verified russian milblogger telegram)) and auto translates one of the posts there, written from the perspective of a larper that acts like he's in RU armed forces about how hard the hohols (crests) are fucking them. Their most recognizable attribute is how it always comes with exaggerated descriptions, abundance of profanity and desperate emotion. Think of some shitty survival horror videogame where a guy writes in a diary

I wonder if there even is any urban infantry fights.

Wouldn't be surprised if all attacks are led by drones, and all enemy positions are cleared out by drones. All soldiers probably do is walk from one bombed out position to another bombed out position. Neither side gets to come close enough to the enemy

There is a quite substantial probability that the current drone-focused warfare isn't really an evolution of warfighting, but rather a temporary technological bottleneck that makes warfare by itself almost impossible to coduct.

You cannot entirely rely only on missiles or drones to win a fight, you need assets on the ground, be they infantry or vehicles. For as long as drones continue posing a massive threat to land forces, wars will continue resembling an endless exchange of long-distance strikes without any side holding any superiority.

Not just talking about Ukraine/Russia war, but also about US/Israel/Iran situation.

You can strike at logistics from a distance, but those logistics will be exposed by the enemy for strikes for as long as the enemy can afford to keep them exposed. Once the noose gets tighter, he'll just find ways to move vital logists either undergound or into unreachable areas.

Even then Elves are not "always ugly, devilish-looking" and always "portrayed as tricksters". That is the traditional German view of them but the Ancient English considered them to be similar in nature to their pagan Gods and at least partly divine in nature. They were known for beauty and wisdom, hence the names such as Alfred - "Elf-Counsel", Aelfwine - "Elf-Friend" and Aelfric - "Elf-Ruler"

it's cheaper and faster to just rush with developing effective anti-drone measures, than digging thousands of miles or wide tunnels.

I think we will see an end to "drone supremacy" in coming 5 or so years. It overstayed its welcome.

>"liberal democracies do not attack other liberal democracies, and this is why to achieve global peace, we need to attack everyone who is not a liberal democracy and force them to become a liberal democracy"

The things EU does and says might sound strange, until you realise that all of their institutions were designed around that very ideology.

It really depends what you mean by "evolution". If you do a big thonk, FPV drones are just really precise ATGMs and Gerans are cheap cruise missiles. From this point of view separate drone units are just as silly as machine gun divisions were back in time. On the other hand, the strategy and tactics have changed significantly. One might even dare to say, drones are a game changer.

if you do a bit of thonk, you will realise that this analogy is wrong.

Drones are small, cheap, and nimble LOITERING munitions.
So they don't act like missiles, they act like kamikaze soldiers who can travel in 3d space (horizontally and vertically), can change trajectory, can even silently camp under bushes, can set up ambushes, and can condict surveillance.

It's a war of attrition, not manuever warefare. Most direct pathway to our victory is hitting Ukranian manpower and morale. Therefore fpv drones are hunter-killer units

He has a reason to stall, the longer he does it, the worse off all the Nato country economies will get. He has to measure the harm they do to themselves by trying to switch to war economies, when they lack industry for it and de-democratizing completely to such an extent that locals are on the verge of revolting against their governments, against the harm they can deal to Russia by sending supplies to Ukraine. So far, the harm the European countries have done to themselves is tremendous and while they also caused Russian economy to decline slightly, it is incomparable to the kind of damage they are doing to themselves by treating Ukraine as a sunk cost fallacy resource black hole. Killing Ukrainian politicians won't do anything, because Ukraine is not ruled by Ukrainian politicians, they're shadows on a wall in Plato's cave.

revolts don't exist in 2026.

Society is de-unionized, dis-connected, overly silo'ed, dis-organised, and dis-hearted.
If they're not revolting against migrants who 24/7 rape their children and women in the hundreds of thousands, they're definitely not going to revolt against austerity, collapsing industry, and joblessness.

Ukraine even gave you a preview of what you can expect from the rest of Europe. Your dad, brother, son, can be violently beaten up and dragged into a van, to never be seen again, and nobody will bat an eye.

I do not mean an actual revolt, you are correct, but the general state of demoralization or lack of doing anything at all, will not make good soldiers out of Europeans. So there is little reason to actually escalate and hit Europeans with missiles so far. But that is only to a point. If they keep feeding Ukraine and start giving it weapons that can cause serious harm to Russia in amounts that can pose a threat to the country, then we will see a strike on Europe, because obviously Putin isn't going to sit on his hands and let them bomb the motherland to pieces. If Nato tries to close the airspace over Ukraine, this will lead to an open war with them.

>will not make good soldiers out of Europeans
I don't think anyone cares in Europe about that.
There's no strict NATO mechanism that estimates someone as a good or a bad soldier. They'll just throw everyone they can into the meatgrinder and hope for the best.
>So there is little reason to actually escalate and hit Europeans with missiles so far
To be honest, not sure about that.
A lot of the countries are most avidly pushing for escalation are the countries who unironically believe that being a member of NATO places them into a "walled garden", and no matter their policies or behaviour, nothing bad will happen to them. This is precisely why the escalation ladder continues to climb - nobody is willing to insert a stick into that wheel and cause a crash.

Letting that wheel crash by itself seems to be his plan so far, as he waits for Europe to economically exhaust itself, as I stated prior. There might be a lot of political will to escalate the war against Russia, but most European countries cannot even afford to build their own ships and at most can manage a handful of tanks or IFV's. Numbers that Russia, in an open conflict could destroy in a matter of weeks. The only two ways this war could escalate and pivot towards Europe from Russia's side is if Europe begins to directly enter its armed forces into Ukraine and attacking Russian military, or if they furnish Ukraine with more advanced weapons that present a greater threat to Russian people, which Ukrainian armed forces doubtlessly will use to strike more kids dorms and cafe's. That will cause social and political unrest that will force his hand, and this seems to be the path those controlling Ukraine have chosen.

>Letting that wheel crash by itself seems to be his plan so far, as he waits for Europe to economically exhaust itself, as I stated prior.
I doubt that economic exhaustion as you imagine it will have any degree of impact on EU policy towards Russia.
Even if all they have left are candles and sticks, the policy will remain the same - because EU's posture towards Russia seems to be driven mainly by ideology, and not by economic interests.
>There might be a lot of political will to escalate the war against Russia, but most European countries cannot even afford to build their own ships and at most can manage a handful of tanks or IFV's.
While this is true, EU still possesses sufficient amount of stockpiles and infantry to cause WW3.
Attacking Kaliningrad, and then using Baltics/Poland as proxies would be sufficient for that. Basically started a Ukraine 2.0 but bigger.
>The only two ways this war could escalate...
it can escalate in many-many ways. Up to the point of utilising all of EU/NATO capabilities in ISR and espionage, to try to assassinate Russia's top officials. Don't underestimate creativity of the desperate.

For as long as Russia does not, in a practical manner, assert its red lines - creativity won't stop.

Don't be ridiculous. Baltics and Poland combined would not be able to field an army comparably to anything that Ukraine had at the start of this conflict.
>Up to the point of utilising all of EU/NATO capabilities in ISR
This already is being done, who do you think feeds Ukraine targeting data?

That too had been tried, to some extent. Allegedly there even had been an attempt to assassinate Putin himself. To no great effect so far.

they don't need to, if the conflict area small, then a smaller army is also sufficient. You'd need at best 10,000 soldiers to cause sufficient crisis in Kaliningrad.
>This already is being done, who do you think feeds Ukraine targeting data?
for oil facilities for now only

cuckler is making the same mistake as assad did and not destroying the enemy completely, leaving the piggers to build up in any way they can, supported by literally every western country from portugal to japan, his operational force is way too small to effectively do anything but hold the line, couple that with his hidden sympathy towards the west and america and his betrayal of allies from syria to iran to lybia etc that are vital to exert russias influence abroad and create buffer zones, truly a massive disappointment in all fields, youd think hed be more educated on military operations in that region from ww1 to ww2 but he instead rather plays video games with assad all day

Well, if they are stupid enough to commit to any of those in a serious manner, backed by politics, they will definitely provoke Russia into an open conflict. Furthermore, right now, Russian populace and military both have become increasingly bolder, having witnessed both the inhumanity of Ukrainian armed forces and their consecutive defeats and inability to take back any of the territory Russians had claimed. If there were any loud dissenting voices among Russian politics in the past, in regards as to whether it was wise to pursue this war, right now, the only things they argue about is whether they should send regular missiles first into western Europe, or let nukes do the talking.

Well, that's due to the US causing an oil crisis, if it were not for that, it'd be more noticeable, that going to war, did slow down Russian economic growth, if not reverse it. Russia is the most sanctioned country in the world right now, try as you might, there's no denying, that it is too now worse off, having been barred from trade with its neighbours.

when they refer to "mature democracy" they mean a specific architecture of bureaucracy

that's also what they mean by their evaluations on whether a country is "ready enough" to join EU/NATO or not.
They require certain procedures and mechanisms to be established inside that country, and if they are - then it qualifies for "EU level of democracy" standards.
Who and how popular he is - is of little relevance
