I dated a single mom briefly. It was better than most I think because the father was dead. Died at 30 of some terrible sudden disease apparently. Had a daughter. Sad stuff. The mom was pretty reasonable and normal but I did worry about being accused of something being around the daughter. If the man left her or died, it's probably ok. Interaction with the child is where it gets a little complicated. I don't think the new guy should ever just come in trying to be dad instantly. Should earn your way into that by just being there for them. No matter what their mother did, that kid didn't ask to exist.
