But having that buffer period after college to save money made the transition into the real world a breeze and helped me avoid major debt.

I currently live in my own home but that's only because my parents, who truly care about me, allowed me to continue living with them while paying my way through college and for two years after to build up my finances. For this reason among many others I will ensure my parents are well cared for throughout their retirement and old age. My friends did not have that same opportunity and they're still paying for it. One of them got kicked out six months after turning eighteen (his drug addicted brother still stays with his parents rent free though) and had to struggle to make ends meet for years, he still lives paycheck to paycheck. Another moved out on his own due to pressure from his parents in his early 20s and suffered for it, not for any long term benefit either. If you don't have familial support in those first crucial years of adulthood you've been hobbled, gimped. Some people make it out of that sort of okay, and then survivorship bias tells them that if they can do it anyone can when that's missing the point. You're much worse off if you move out at eighteen than if you help your parents and work while living under their roof for a few more years.
