I'm no expert but I can pretty reliably guess approximately what year a given song made within the last 30 years came out.I also know people who are much better at guessing this than I.So I don't think the idea that they all sound the same holds water.

Anyway, also the arrangements changed significantly too. For example, about 30 years ago--more like 35 actually--it became very fashionable to eliminate "call and response". Tying this to politics, the collective unconscious stopped talking back in forth through harmony. The conversation became one sided and anger certainly was also given centre stage. the other thing was High Definition cameras. not only did music not change much but once 1080p came into existance with 4k only being slightly better yet still most streaming sites show 1080. its difficult now to say This was 2 years ago or 20 years ago unless you see a group of cars or cell phones in the hands of the actor.I stated this decades ago on the internet and my prediction is 100% accurate.
