The US helped China build the lab. The US had inspectors on the ground in the lab making sure everything was safe and up to code, and word on the cables was it wasn't safe and up to code. The Wuhan facility was a disaster waiting to happen. With that said, what did Trump do just months before the leak? He canceled funding, and pulled all US inspectors and US cooperation out of Wuhan. It's like the US helped them build this lab for extremely dangerous stuff, then when they discovered that China was being careless, they just left China, sat back and waited for a disaster to happen. Maybe China pulled the trigger that released covid, but the US handed them the gun.
