Late one night when I was homeless and wandering the streets, I had a joint in my hand I was looking to spark up. I walked passed a normal looking brown man passed out on a bench, there was a crackhead with him going on about how his friend is dying, but I ignored this crackhead like I usually do, and kept walking, my mind on my joint. I eventually felt bad enough and went back, he was overdosing on feet and was dying. I ended up calling 911 and giving him car, it took about 20 mins. I had to beg, force even, other passers by to help me lift him off the bench and on to the ground. They were very hesitant to help. I think it's important to understand that we look at such maps from the modern perspective, which is the one where the nation state is the default. Back then though this didn't exist and so the size and borders weren't too important. Much more important was which networks existed within these areas and what networks were spanning beyond. A similar development is in motion right now. The borders won't be physical anymore, but in our heads with mindsets and preferences what to align with in your attitudes and actions. The expression of these new networked borders will be digital while the physical element will remain, but lose its importance as frame of reference. It was the same back then when you were a Catholic, Protestant, Jews, Freemason, Hanse trade member or whatever. Such identities will start dominating and it won't matter anymore whether you live next to someone with different attitude, but it will only be important if you can live your life in your network. That said, most ppl will turn into neo-peasants again, because they can't handle the degree of abstraction. Nation states are a natural entity as extension of the clan working his plot of land. This is why they are degrading the population so it's a useless blob and can't form a cohesive mass anymore. My thoughts:(1) For them to win everything would have to remain the same for the next century.But that's impossible because the lesson of history is CONSTANT CHANGE. Since the 1780s nothing stays the same and we see constant upheaval every 40 years. The west will be utterly different in a few decades.(2) All ideologies die and are thrown in the dustbin of history.
