>Why would someone who has famously heavily invested in real estate throughout his life see housing prices increase as a good thing?
Because it *is* a good thing for him and other millionaire / billionaire investors like him. It's only a bad thing for Americans who don't own a home and now most likely never will.

It has very little to do with Trump actually
The fact is Nations around the world have chosen a system where real estate in cities
Will always become expensive over time.
No one wants to stop this because the people in power own such pricey real estate

The only solution is to ban permanent property ownership in inside city limits
Only leases ranging from 30 to 60 years should be allowed

Subsidizing housing elevates the floor price. It's one of those things that because people treat it like a speculative asset, pumping money into it only pumps the price higher.

There's an issue that people don't want to talk about, but most people tie up the vast majority of their net worth into their properties, thinking it'll go up forever. There are indications that this is shifting because the cost of housing is causing a demographics crisis. People are not having families because they have no money to raise one.

In the past, houses actually depreciated like cars did. Only the land had inherent value. Homes degrade over time like any other durable good so the prices reflected this.

Of course, I'm talking in cycles of decades, When the Baby Boomer generation start dying off, you'll be stuck with subpar properties that cost less to demolish and rebuild form scratch than it does to remediate the property. Don't count on every city doing this. The cities you want to be in will continue to rise in value.

The thing is, most people, not only leftists, are NPCs who have no inner thoughts and go through life simply reacting to stimuli.

It's not even about if housing should be affordable or unaffordable.
Should private jets be affordable? Why shouldn't the poor be able to afford it too and not just the rich?
Should the cure for metastasized cancer be available? This one is not even unaffordable, its not even available to anyone. How is that fair? It should be both available and free.
The thing is, both those examples are unaffordable/unavailable due to material reality. It's not possible for everyone to use a private jet all the time, and no one in charge can just decide that all cancers should be easily cured because its unfair if it can't be cured and people die.

So let's see how that extrapolates to homes. Is it humanly possible to have affordable housing? It certainly is. Unlike the cure for terminal cancer or a private jet that uses tons of fuel for a small trip, there's no natural obstacle to affordable homes for everyone.

So, what does the government need to do then? Make the rich pay for them? Is it because elon has hoarding all the money to himself, so the rest of us can't pay for a home? The price of homes is decided by how many homes are available vs what the people who want one can afford. And if there's not enough for everyone, it works just like bidding. If there's 3 homes for each 10 people and the person who is willing to pay the third most for one will pay 500k, then a home is worth 500k.

Btw I'll explain what's actually going on in another comment.

>>
>>538695124
Only inside cities
Government auctions Leases ranging from 30 to 60 years
This creates some speed breakers to unlimited property price growth

Real Estate property is one of the those things that are resistant to normal capitalism
With most things in capitalism they more or less align well with the law of SUPPLY and DEMAND
Property prices in cities are resistant to this because
Land prices keep going up and up
There just cant be enough supply

>>
>>538695330
The good news is, massive prices for homes means people building homes make more money, so more people will want to make homes, so normally, they wouldn't have to be this expensive forever. This balancing mechanism is the core of how capitalism works and the whole reason it works and quality of life is good. The problem is, you need licenses, permits and paperwork in order to make a home. That is, the government stands in the way. This is what Trump means by "I will not make the housing market go down! I want it high!". He is preventing construction because his administration has the ability to pass laws and the monopoly on violence.

As I was saying before, conservatives are also NPCs, not only leftists. They respond to stimuli that's right in front of them. They respond to the way something is worded and how its said, not to the content. So, when people say "I want an affordable home", it reminds them of leftists asking for a handout, and that's what they respond to.

They can't understand that all that's needed for affordable housing is for the government to not be in the way (which is in itself the opposite of real capitalism), to explain such a concept to the average person would be like trying to explain the blockchain to a dog. They see you ask for something to be cheaper and that's the stimuli they respond to.

On the other hand, leftists do not want to hear anything other than "its the investment funds", which of course they don't realize it makes zero mathematical sense. I think it could in principle be possible to convince the leftists that the government standing in the way of home construction is a form of capitalism and they should be against it, but this implies supporting the free market so not sure how plausible it is. And it's still not possible anyway because the media is telling them that it's the investment funds anyway.

So, this issue is impossible. Both political sides are too retarded.

>>538695561
Again this is another example of an average person reacting to stimuli and not thinking. I am not comparing a private jet to a home, I am giving an example of something that would be fair if it was available to everyone, but it's not materially feasible. However, you just saw that I mentioned private jets and homes in the same comment, and that's the stimuli you respond to. It's ok.

That being said, wouldn't it be fair if every mcd worker could also have a private jet? Why only the rich?

Not all land price goes up, only land that the government allows home (or industrial) construction on. The rest of the land is affordable. What does this tell you?
>Has anyone here noticed that real estate in cities does NOT FOLLOW the laws of supply and demand?
It is not mathematically possible for anything to not follow the laws of supply and demand. This is a myth that low IQ people say.
>>
>>538696995
Depends on the city. Not all cities are growing. City real estate attracts more speculators which inflates the price beyond actual homebuyer demand (in some cases it just changes hands between speculators).

You meant to say you can or you can't?

Either way, prices are still set by supply and demand, they work just like bidding.

Supply can't always be increased. Sometimes, something is impossible so supply is zero, like the cure for an incurable illness. Sometimes, its materially impossible that more than a few people can have something. And sometimes, the government is in the way.

Real estate in cities can expand, as they can grow or make taller buildings.

1) the housing bill is trash. Same people falling for this probably thought the "affordable care act" would make healthcare cheaper.
2) Trump is trying to thread the needle on this and many other issues to solve the problem incrementally without blowing things up. The best policy for housing is deportations since that's why prices are skyrocketing in the first place.
3) Trump is trying to placate the boomers so that they don't panic, which could cause serious problems economically and politically. Pol used to understand that solving our problems was going to take some time...

>And sometimes, the government is in the way.
This is also true.
But isn't it also true that land values going up with no intrinsic value addition is also a problem

For example
It could be the same land with the same building in the same neighborhood that hasn't changed or improved in any way
But land prices could still go up merely because of an unfixable shortage issue

Add to this
Most things such as cars, household appliances etc depreciate with time
And at least create a second hand market where they become cheaper
Not so with land

Cities are demand concentrates by nature. Population has massively increased. You are all too stupid to build your houses to save money. Property and land are in incredible demand in cities.

There is nothing planned about obvious supply and demand issues, you're just dumb niggers.

Isn't real estate in China collapsing though?
>>
>>538698187

But they did. You can just read the Fed report showing that the recent explosion in housing prices and rent is primarily due to the millions of random foreigners Biden imported though.

Yeah but his real state would still be valuable if they allowed more home construction. I'm not even saying to remove all zoning laws and urban planning, just to hand out more permits. Because this is insane and its 100% imposed by force by them, not a capitalism thing.

If there's more homes being built and millenials have access to one, it wont hurt the value of something like the Trump tower, or real estate in good locations or closer to city centers.

I don't think food prices skyrocketed to the same extent home prices did. Not even close. And even still, they're expected to rise due to the money printing.

Sure a population increase can cause price increases but it shouldn't be this bad. Population also increased back when people have more children and obviously that wasn't a bad thing nor did it increase prices "due to extra demand" kek.

1. Chinese Government owns all the land. All of it.
2. Chinese workers, having few investment opportunities that weren't the crooked, gov't controlled Stock Market, invested in new property construction.
3. This created a shit-ton of properties most of the population couldn't afford to move into.
4. It also created a massive bubble.
5. Now the autocracy is "encouraging" lower prices (ie value) on those properties or they will be "sad and angry".
6. Hence they are fucked.

Because debt financing is a major way the federal government secure printing money to provide foreign aid to Israel, kekw.
If you can afford housing (or anything), you take on less debt. If you take on less debt, banks earn less interest.
If banks earn less interest, demand for the U.S. dollar declines. If demand for the U.S. dollar declines, the Federal Reserve has less monetary flexibility.
If the Federal Reserve has less monetary flexibility, markets weaken and the U.S. government has to rely more heavily on borrowing or expanding its influence abroad through diplomacy or military power.
Economies naturally cycle through periods of growth and decline. The argument is that the financial system works best when people remain indebted, but not so deeply indebted as other underdog nations.

Nobody has an answer, huh? It's really simple, they're poor because government made them that way. The entire "affordability crisis" was created by the government and you can see it coming a mile off from multiple angles.
>debt-based currency backed on government SOCIAL credit
>credit-based economy made to ensnare the average person
>expansion of taxation
>expansion of welfare coverage for any ailment and disease
>endless immigration and ever-increasing acceptance of asylum claims
Yet on top of this people want government to make commie blocks? Because that's more or less what you're getting, since all government is going to do is contract building companies to build apartments and not houses, then government will make the project a tax write-off for those companies. Government will then LEASE the entire project to investment and real estate firms as an intermediary (someone to collect rent) on the government's behalf, places like Homeland Inc. or Blackrock, property management services. So asking the government for "affordable housing" means in the end, "please put me on the slave plantation renting forever, Master!".

This fixes NOTHING.

I believe there are some flaws in your reasoning:

A) Space is limited and the housing shortage in the city is more due to space constraints than a lack of willingness to build homes.

B) In the Netherlands, private firms were purchasing newly built homes to rent them out at very high prices.

C) Historically, without government regulation, landlords had no incentive to build additional homes because a housing shortage allowed them to increase rents. Furthermore, these homes were often unlivable due to issues like rats and mould.

D) There’s a difference between buying a home and affordable rent.

E) The solution to affordable housing is public housing. In our country, housing associations are responsible for building and renting affordable homes. They operate without a profit motive. Rents are somewhat fixed through a point system, and those earning less receive allowances to reduce their rent.

Interestingly, ten years ago the VVD abolished the Ministry of Housing, believing the private sector could manage it better. The result is skyrocketing rents, a waiting list of 10-15 years for a house, and 800 people reacting to a single house.

TLDR: Stop overly praising the free market and reducing regulation.

Affordable housing is like all you can eat buffets, it takes just a few people to ruin it for the rest of us.

Whatever. Prices are still unavoidably set by supply and demand, just like bidding. That's a mathematical fact.

Also, again, I was saying that UNLIKE private jets, homes actually CAN BE available to everyone and affordable, but the problem is deliberately inflicted.

>A)
There's plenty of space around cities though, or room to make taller buildings, in many places with housing shortages, such as Spain.
>B)
It makes zero mathematical sense to blame the problem on this. The housing demand that counts is the final demand of people who will actually live in the homes. Private firms buying the homes to rent them out later wouldn't count for shit if they couldn't find anyone to rent them to at high prices.

Stopped taking you seriously right here.
>C)
??????????

The way EVERY business works is that of course people have no incentive to have competitors, but competitors do, obviously.

If I become a landlord, I have a profit incentive for other landlords to demolish their homes, do you think they would? So for the same reason who would refrain from making homes so others can be rich?? Literally nobody does this. Nobody says "I will not go into this business bc people doing that wouldn't want another competitor".
>D)
In the end its a way of paying for the same thing. There's differences but both prices are decided by the demand for living in a certain place.
>E)
Ok we already have public housing. We have politicians making an entire building of public housing and taking pictures next to it, and they look great in the media.

There's still nowhere near enough homes, though. So, now what?

>VVD abolished the Ministry of Housing, believing the private sector could manage it better
This is fucking retarded, there's no way they ACTUALLY left it to the private sector (keyword here is "actually") and there's still a shortage without lots of businesses building homes to address it.

>Stop overly praising the free market and reducing regulation.
You know what, fine. I'll unironically listen to you on this one. Some regulations make sense. Sometimes society still has problems despite the free market. Happy now? But I'm still right on how the housing market works aka its the governments.
