They think it's smart but really it's a political own goal. If the leftist, anti-brexit, satirist candidate ends up getting a huge amount of votes, then what does that actually say about the ones that withdrew? That they're actually to be taken less seriously than someone who is clearly not serious. The political opporunity here is to use this "character" to punch left. To remind lefties that a literal fucking joke of a lefty establishment candidate is taken seriously and got thousands of votes, so why should anyone take their "serious" candidates seriously after it.It's important that when elections are being used to try to astroturf some kind of legitimacy that people point out the absurdity of it. That the people who are dumb enough to still try to cling to this, need to be made fun of. We need a similar campaign that was done to fedora athiests.
