A lot of the demographics of concern will leave or become such a self destructive nuisance thar you'd need only outlast them and match their force if confronted. National Guard or actual military armories getting raided is a real concern and those regions will be dominated by whoever holds them. Balkanization and confederations of states are a distinct possibility but few in power now seem to be capable of accomplishing this. I see it as a great opportunity, whether or not the government falters, there's so many natural resources and farm land available that once the boomers are out of power and forced to lose by design, the monetary system resets and capital flees; you'd have all the pieces necessary to make a regional power in short order. Starvation and starvation leading to firesquads will separate the incapable, unwilling and unlucky from the rest. Crime and violence will skyrocket and be yet another harrow for people. You may have a farm, village, resources but can you keep it? Society becomes inherently low trust so scams are hard, the corrupt are killed outright when the government shrinks so every business dealing is done with lowest risk and under armed guard. The game becomes producing the most resources, having the largest tax/labor/conscript base and being stable enough to trade for whatever you cannot make yourself. I suggest you learn skills to build, manufacture, grow, repair or heal things. People that can do this are going to be lords and shotcallers.
