Ivy League students are now incapable of reading books. What happened to our society?https://thefederalist.com/2026/07/10/increasing-number-of-ivy-league-students-cant-even-read-so-lets-stop-calling-them-elite/
Reading books is pointless in the age of youtube and AI.Literally only women read books these days. Go to any engineering or math department. All the high iq guys learn through watching videos or through AI.

I studied philosophy at a relatively middling state school, the university of Kansas. Often I am mocked for those credentials, as its a school largely known for its basketball team and being in the middle of a flyover area with little interest. The elitism of the credentialed ivy league class is built around status that does not necessarily correlate with the modern result. There has been a critique of vapidity in the WASP and traditional Ivy elites of the 20th century dating back to sources like Vanity Fair, New Yorker, or Tom Wolfe and what not, and it was ever present in forms. Today, the Ivy League has long degraded from its traditional origins and WASP character, but carries over that prestige. We have succumbed to the bread and circus where the population, including the supposed intellectual elite, is kept docile by a constant flow of effortless stimulation. This culture of instant gratification is the antithesis of the discipline that characterized the prestigious academic institution rigor of the past, it rejects the necessary friction and struggle of search that precede any true understanding. By treating attention as a commodity to be harvested rather than a faculty to be cultivated, we have allowed technology to hijack our cognitive architecture. We are now a deracinated people, adrift in an ocean of ephemeral pop culture. Amusing ourselves to death. The result is Nietzsche's "Last Man", incapable of the ascetic discipline of deep reading or the contemplative attention that Pascal identified as the only alternative to distraction and path to Enlightenment. They are dependent on Jewish corporate products for survival. It is the predictable consequence of a society that elevates entertainment and frivolity to the highest good and views attention as a resource to be capitalized and exploited to the limits of exhaustion.
