As boomers age and die I'm seeing more estate sales. The sales are filled with crap, a lot of it has never been used. Even the valuable China and antique furniture is eventually getting thrown out since it's only other boomers who value this stuff.

Of all my friends who had parents die, they had to rent several dumpsters just to throw their stuff out. My parents own a three bedroom home and the two empty bedrooms are used as storage. The basement and attic are filled as well. They will regularly call me and ask I
>>
>>538751093
You will own nothing and be happy
>>
into ze bluebin in goes outside of the 2 /100 things actually worth money
>>
>>538751093
That's why zoomers are poor, because they throw away everything boomers had.
They are unironically the own nothing generation.
>boomers used silver as money, zoomers don't even stack it
>boomers repaired stuff, zoomers throw everything away
>boomers owned stuff, zoomer don't want to own anything
>>

Consumerism at its best.

>it's only other boomers who value this stuff
I like the antique stuff myself and you're right. The kids don't care about Wedgewood china with the green stamps or even the old victorian houses being left behind. They couldn't care less about old growth hardwoods and golden age Steinways.
They all want a gamer chair, anime posters, toys, and a 200000K following on youtube.
>>
>>538751338
>boomers repaired stuff,

No they don't. Their hoards are filled with lamps and other shit they promised they'll get around to fixing. They have the audacity to put this out for a yard sale and claim, "If you fix it, it's worth a lot of money"
>>
>>538751093
Open a service to internet liquidate dead boomer stuff.
>>
>>538751397
But I thought the zoomers couldn't afford housing?
>>
>>538751093
Imagine being so soulless that you throw out your parents collection. The enlightened just move into their house and leave all the shit where it is.
>>
LMAO yeah some bitch just helped my neghbor clean out like 3 dumpsters worth of shit in their shed
just full of dust and rat shit
to think they spent good money on that crap
>>
>>538751397
That seems nice, but what about the niggers? I want my child to grow up around niggers because Zillow gives the schools more points and higher ratings if there are niggers and brown people.
>>
>>538751520
Not so much anon.
You can't preserve someone else's past. I don't know what I'll do with my mums stuff when she goes - assuming I don't go before her. My stuff if probably worthless, give or take a few items to the younger generation too.
>>
>waaaaah why wont the boomers give me a free house waaaaaaaaaah
>>
When my grandparents keeled over the survivors took whatever they liked, most of the rest was donated to the Salvation Army's chariy shop. Mainly this giant cupboard packed with trinkets, souvenirs and shot glasses. I treasure my nintendium steel tools made before reaganomics offshored the industry to third world shitholes like the USA.
>>
In 2 or 3 hundred years, that old dinnerware will be Valuable as collectables
>>
>>538751768
A free house? Nigga, that's being reverse mortgaged so they can take cruises. They want you to take their useless shit off their hands (so they can buy more stuff).

Most of it will just end up in a landfill. Boomers liked to fill their house with things over time. It was a physical representation of their memories and their lives. You could ask them about something and they'd say where they got it, the specific trip they took and the place they bought it. But all those memories were only important to them, and when they're gone what you're left with is just a pile of stuff they acquired along the way. Most of it isn't even valuable, it just had sentimental value to them. So off to the landfill it goes. Sucks in a way, but they don't need it anymore and it will just take up room anyway. Besides, you're probably already filling wherever you live with your own eras version of junk some child or grandchild will one day have to deal with
>>
baby boomers had really bad taste, dont expect too much from them

I scout for rarities owned by croaked boomies for a living. With no exaggeration, 99.5% of the stuff boomers hoarded is utterly worthless. Especially the women, where the figure jump to 100% straight. There are few bangers here and there but that's mostly stuff they themselves inherited from their parents/grandparents.

Happened to my parents and thankfully they are going out of their way to make sure it doesn’t happen to me and my brother. My dad’s mother was literally paying for a storage unit for over a decade. Thousands of dollars, probably totaling in the tens of thousands overall. What was in there? An old stale couch, a few misc pieces of rotten furniture and a lamp. Which we then loaded up and took to the dump when we helped her move. Tens of thousands of dollars to store that for longer than I’ve been alive. My mother’s parents at least had their own garage to load to the ceiling with junk, which has now since been dumped. It’s crazy how much boomers hoard. All that junk could have just been money in an account growing over a lifetime.
>>
>>538751552
You arent lying. My parents rented one pf their houses to some boomers and after the tenats died we had to clean out the house and the garage was full of worthless shit covered in dust and rat shit and rat poison pellets. Their kids didnt care about any of that shit, even though it was full of suff that I assumed would have sentimental value, so into the trash it all went.
To be fair my dads own garage is packed full of shit but at least most of it is thousands of dollars in working tools so when he goes Ill actually keep most of it instead of binning it.
>>
>>538751093
All the boomers in my life have passed. Every time its: jewelry and guns get taken first, some furniture given to child going to college, then everything is put of for an estate/yard sale, everything that isnt sold id its the first death in the family is boxed up and sits in someones garage for a few years until they realize its silly to keep boxes of someone else’s stuff, regardless its then tossed into a dumpster. Literally no one want your stuff; the idea of buying “heirloom pieces” to “pass down” is just effectual marketing
>>
>>538751093
Been to a bunch of estate sales. My wife loves the mid-century modern stuff. I like vintage electronics but most of it is just trash these days anyways. The best part about estate sales is watching other boomers flock to the carcass and pick stuff they clearly don't need. I can just imagine all of that stuff being sold at their estate sale in a year or so.
>>
>>538752171
>>538751923

even when they have some persian rugs they are the lowest quality possible and the worst patterns

silent generation had amazing things in their houses, ivory, quality rugs, wooden furnitures etc... but boomers threw it all to buy plastic and osb

Fine chinese crafts are absolute bangers. That's the next x100 like vintage pokemon was. Especially now China is numba 1 and have the money to bring back their old relics hoarded by Europeans. Problem is it's a very specific area of expertise very few westerners are well versed in, and fakes are plentiful (and were at all times, it's not just a recent phenomenon).

My grandmother who grew up in the depression and had a hoarding mentality didn't have as much crap as boomers do. Even then, the stuff she had was worth something. I inherited a house belonging to a boomer hoarder and also worked at a Salvation Army warehouse, so here's what I can tell you - The shit in the house was either thrown away, given away, or put into a massive bonfire. I'm talking about cheap glassware, collector plates from the Franklin Mint, a lot of made-in-China "Native American" crap that either came from truck stops or the Dollar Store, and clothes. Literal bags of fucking clothes. Took me YEARS to empty this house from top to bottom. As for my old job, every geriatric dipshit insists on donating worthless junk like rusty cookware or broken appliances because "Somebody can use it." The reality is they're just too lazy to haul this crap to the dump and they want the tax write-off + feeling of being a "good person" because they donated a bag of piss-soaked baby clothes and a box of moldy books. Here's the reality nobody tells you: 90% of the shit that gets donated is put into a dumpster at the main warehouse. The 5% of donations that are actually good get stolen by the workers. The remaining 5% of "sort of good" items are put on the shelves, often with outrageous prices.

Even soilennials are going down this path. If one died tomorrow do you think anyone would care to buy their shitty ikea furniture, their smelly ass gamer chair, or their collections of shitty plushies and figurines. At most the only things that might have a value to sell are their car, their gaming rig and consoles, any retro or rare video games, and maybe some trading cards. Everything else would go to salvation army and even they would dumpster most of it.
>>
we basically trashed 95% of my grandparents stuff and brought it to the dump.
>>
>>538752023
In the last few decades people have misconstrued “making memories” with “buying shit/paying to go somewhere and take a picture with it”. We have directly linked “good times” with spending money. It’s really sad because most people wake up in their 30s and realize their life is built on hollow pictures and cheap consumerism. People try to define themselves with tattoos and products, they basically express themselves by latching onto “cool and trendy” things instead of just expressing themselves. It’s very shallow and sad.

Louis XV style furnitures, persian rugs, old coinage, nazi memorabilia left behind after WW2, imperial chinese ceramics, military equipments,... could be anything as long as it's old enough, of good quality or was owned by remarkable people. The set i posted in previous pic was the silverware of the 4th daughter of Louis XV for example. Even weird stuff can hold value if it sells a story, pic rel for example is a medical prescription for the imperial pharmacy of the Tsar destined to a russian princess (forgot which one) for a bad cough found in a drawer.

Well said. I understand their mindset. I get that back in the day consumerism wasn’t as prevalent and cheap. If you have a bunch of hand me downs, you could actually make someone’s life better by giving it to them. But that just isn’t the case anymore. Things aren’t built to last, it’s built to be cheap and affordable to everyone. So everyone already has all the junk they need. What we need now is family present in our lives to assist us with stuff or just straight up cash.

Belgium is passing its second round of 10 billion euros in austerity measures to balance the budget. I went over the list 100+ examples of social benefits cuts but all 100+ of them have exceptions for people born before 1965. We basically have two tax codes and social systems at this point. An amazing one for boomers, a horrible one for everyone else.

Belgium even passed its first version of a wealth tax, but existing wealth is excluded. So if you're a 65 millionaire, there is no wealth tax. If you're 45 and somehow become a millionaire against all odds, there is a wealth tax.

>Why do they collect so much stuff?
The fiat bubble economy hit all things collectible back in the 80s and 90s, and lingered on for a bit.

You could literally buy a brand new toy, sit it on a shelf, and a year later, some other boomer would buy it for double the value.
Think Tulip Mania, but for everything.

It will impoverish everyone on earth.
>>
>>538752333
Trips of truth. If there’s not practical use or financial value, most stuff gets tossed. I’ll expect the same when I die. It’s fine to have some worthless trinkets because you enjoy them. Doesn’t mean anyone else will.

Honestly same with furniture. Sure it might even be nice, but where is someone going to put it? They already have their own stuff.

Problem is Ebay makes it so the kids will cherry-pick the good stuff like quality watches, audio, tools, etc. Then they sell that stuff for a premium themselves and leave the scraps to an estate company to auction off.

In my area you see this happen a bunch with gun collections. You'll find all the accessories of a hunter/gun guy at estate sales but the quality firearms are already taken by the kids, sometimes sold off at gunbroker prices.

But all the worthless shit like moth-eaten hunting clothes, refill stations, NRA patches will be there because that stuff isn't worth anything.

Not to mention when a quality estate sale is listed you must arrive at 5 am to compete with, you guessed it, retired boomers with wads of cash and nothing to do but "collect" or "flip for fun."

God I hate this. They have done so much damage to society. They have channels now thinking they are celebrities. It’s so slimy and ruins the whole point of second hand goods

As soon as the people born in the mid 60s die off, in about 10 years or so, there's going to be a glut of all that stuff, though.

Fair. Had an old lady at work that constantly try to pass off old items on us. Always made me feel guilty for turning her down.

Some of the wood furniture that boomers own is some quality stuff. Multiple rings in the wood compared to modern furniture that have like 4-6. There is some solid stuff to get from boomer estate sales.
>>
>>538753649
Yeah it's absurd, there'll be lines of cars going down multiple roads in my small town.
Part of it though is that there's just nothing to do for free anymore so it's cheaper to go spend 20 dollars at an estate sale than find any other source of entertainment, if you actually want to go outside it just costs gas money to walk through someone else's house and pick out what you want.

I just make a rule that whatever I buy has to have some kind of actual real value and not take up a ton of space.
Boomer horders never thought of this and just stacked stuff up to the ceiling, I want whatever it is to fit inside a shoebox usually and not be plastic. This automatically rules out 99% of everything and what you're left with is 90% rusted, so you're left with a few things that really only take up a couple boxes.

Perfumes are probably only worth money if the bottle looks fancy though, or they're historical.

Of that style, which means it's mostly early to mid 1800s. There is nearly no furnitures left from Louis XV's era (1750s) beside in museums.
And you couldn't sit on them or use them on a daily, it's just too fragile after so much time, even if the materials were of the highest quality, wood tend to dry up too much and become very "snappy".
Unless we are talking about the pyramids or the coliseum, the larger the items, the less they tend to survive through time. I got a oak drawer in my room from the early 1800s and the shit is falling apart even if externally the patina make it look sturdy. I'm afraid to put items in it kek.

Apparently, when I was a small boy, I told my retarded cunt of a mother to buy gold. At the time, it was about $300 an ounce.

Instead, she spent thousands of dollars that she embezzled from Dad's child support money on enough antique furniture to cram a 2000 square foot house to the rafters, as well as filling up the attached garage and its attic. (All effectively valueless now, unless she can find another dumb boomer to offload it on.) She also used it to get an associate's degree in IT that she never did anything with, besides blowing money on courses and textbooks. (She learned absolutely nothing, btw. Refused to have WI-FI until like 2019 for fear of "hackers.") In the early 2000s, companies would have been falling all over themselves to hire even a brainless bitch like her to meet quotas, but her snooty ass refused to work for almost any employer.

You will be better than your parents brother. Your gonna make it.

Wonderful. A golden age of consumerism when I am most broke. Golden age for who? Jews? Girl bosses? Who has the money to buy shit from dead boomers then the people who help enable them?
>>
I will never afford a house why do I need multiple sets of dishware and 100 year old cabinet to keep them in? Where will I keep an entire living room set of uncomfortable chairs that aren't meant to be sat in? Where will I hang the 2 dozen reproduction paintings that I could probably sell, collectively, for about $20? How am I supposed to transport an upright player piano from the 19th century into my apartment or move it with me? For what reason do I need an Amish-made armoire with a broken door that would cost more to fix than I could get for the entire piece of furniture on eBay?

Some of the furniture is nice, and practical. I will be keeping the counter-height dining table with its six matching chairs, and a self-storing leaf for shrinking and growing the table. That is a good piece of furniture I will take care of until I die. But the armoire? The china cabinet? The, I dunno the word for it even, it's like a tall, narrow tchotchke storage closet with glass shelving and ornate (but extremely cheaply made) metal fixtures. My mom bragged about how it cost her $2500, made of solid cherry wood and several panes of clear heavy glass. It's only purpose? To display a bunch of random crap she accumulated over the years in flea markets and tourist trap shops, like little dolls and figurines and shit that I could probably get $5 altogether if I sold them for a nickle a piece.

And my dad. Ho shit. He collected magazines. National Geographics mostly, but also Time, and some Hustlers. My mom won't let him display the Huslters anywhere so they just sit in banker boxes in the attic. He has a fucking huge tool collection, a table saw, a work bench, every power tool you can think of, a chain saw, you name it. He putters around in the garage for an hour a week but doesn't use his tools for anything. Keeps talking about fixing the piano, or building this or that, but never does. I have no idea what I will do with those tools. I dunno if he even knows how to use half of them.

This, most boomers own decades of low-grade consumer goods. A house, garage and a storage box full of stuff that wouldn’t be worth picking up at clearance. I helped my parents move a few years ago and it took nearly a week to clear out the old house. I suspect that by the end of it they’ll have devolved into full-blown hoarding
>>
>>538751093
The China thing always cracked me up. As if boomers haven't made their kids' lives bad enough, it's like they invested their whole lives in one last fuck you when you inherit a ton of worthless trash that needs throwing out.

you are thinking in black or white
>>
>>538751093
I didn't know this is universal.
I've decided to deny the inheritance, moldy houses and apartment full of trash.
Easier to just say no thanks.
>>
My grandparents sold all their gold family heirlooms to go gambling lmao. Grandpa is in the nursing home trying to tell me he wants me to have 'the china bowl' like it means anything lmao. Maybe I'll grab it and actually use it for ramen and shit.

The weird thing is the silent gen/boomers were still at a time where they could loot antiquities and heirlooms from other cultures. Go to the Vanderbilt mansions it's all gilded shit but the real stuff the collected was mummies, samurai swords, art, etc.

If I ever have a family I'll probably collect cool fossils, gold, and silver. Maybe I'll do something cool like bury a bunch of coins off a public trail and give my kids a treasure map and key when I pass.

Are you admitting that race is more important than religion?
>>
>>538752799
Do you think millennials think anyone is going to treasure their fucking Billy book case? Unlike Boomers, we understand that 90% of consumer goods is transient trash. The other major difference is that we’re not filling our homes to the brim with it. The Boomer obsession with cheap material crap is deeply pathetic

>so my parents don't donate $10,000 worth of out of print anime DVDs, VHS tapes & Blurays

It's junk, literal fucking junk. This is how boomers are made you stupid fuck.
>>
>>538751869
>Besides, you're probably already filling wherever you live with your own eras version of junk some child or grandchild will one day have to deal with
I can't. Unlike my parents, I don't own a home in my 30s, so I cannot afford to accumulate endless amounts of junk. I don't have the space to keep it. I am forced to maintain a reasonable amount of personal possessions that can fit in a one bedroom apartment with less than 800 square feet.
>>
can someone explain me blue plates
>>
>>538760932
>If I ever have a family I'll probably collect cool fossils, gold, and silver
You'll be paying child support in living essentially under minimum wage until you're 55. Is what'll happen to you
>>
>>538760823
This, their final gift to their kids is a burden of having to deal with all their consoomerism and hording.

You end up having to pay for a dumpster to trash it all
>>
>>538756914
>They don't want the houses they could afford.
because 40 years ago those would have been condemned and dozed.
>>
>>538753308
when your family is shit, you only have bad shit, then
in that case, your family's value is negative, anon
>>
>>538761176
boomer women will fill the house with extra dining tables and fancy plating sets like a museum for a tea party of exhibit and go insane if anyone touches it. bonus if they encase it in a massive heavy wood and glass display
>>
>>538753470
Based. My wife and I also decided at the end of our 20s (a decade ago) we’d rather get ahead financially and enjoy the little things than live high on the hog. I think we’re just gonna pay off the house in my early 40s and continue to stack for a while. Joy isn’t found in money, but in peace and time spent with family. I pity the consumers who can not understand such joys.
>>
This thread makes me think a boomer offing service would be in high demand

better let your boomer parents be killed by some stranger than watch their only real wealth, their homes, be reverse mortgaged so their demented brains can indulge in more boomer trash hoarding

like it's really worth the investment
>>
>>538752551
That's garage sales. Estate sales involve things people kept until they died. Relatives get first pick, of course, but they're usually normies, and don't make a clean sweep of worthwhile stuff.
>>
>>538759622
Two other tenants in my apartment are boomers and their basement storage space looks EXACTLY like that.
