We didnt have smartphones. Thats it.
People were still moody. City folk still committed crime. Gas was expensive (relative). Gays were starting to pop up everywhere.
Those cool stretchy pants started showing up at Express, which was like a less annoying version of yoga pants.

It was honestly a very naive time. It’s a bit nauseating to revisit. Personally, while I don’t like everything about the time we live in now, it’s a bit more sincere.

The 90s were not cool. They were a pale follow-on of the dynamic wildly creative 80s. It was a period of artistic and cultural coasting that retro'd the 60s and 70s in art, graphics, movies, and music. It celebrated an ugly "grunge" aesthetic in pop culture (music videos had roaches and bathrooms and dirty people and places). Bubbling up was some brilliant satire (Mike Judge). For those of a certain age, it was a spring meadow in time before the idiocracy that arose.

Because life had largely remained free of the internet. Life was still real

It was just the time to be alive. Video games weren't cucked and if your dad was cool he chipped your ps1 with a 25 dollar chip from eBay. The Internet itself was extremely fragmented compared to today, every time you went online and just started clicking hyperlinks it was like a safari. Gas was expensive, but groceries were cheap. You could fill up two carts at Sam's club for less than 200 dollars, and that included tons of steaks. Jobs were plentiful and even the most retarded in society could still own homes. Drugs were still illegial everywhere so you didn't see these fent addicts just sprawled out everywhere. Clinton was president and back then he seemed cool cause everyone thought Hillary was a cunt even back then and he was raw doggin Monica. People were more racist back then especially in what they wore, back in those days you could wear a confederate flag shirt on the weekends and still be mark from accounting on Monday. You could drop the hard R casually in public and not worry about being recorded and posted on tiktok without your consent. Social media wasn't around yet so people could freely express themselves without worrying about the constant judgement of others (this is still opt out able today). The Internet was slow so you usually either were grabbing games, movies and video game rips for your ps1 off Usenet. The mall was the place to be, and retail prices were also cheap compared to now. You could go to the mall with 60 dollars and have an entire day. Cars were cooler and you could actually fix them yourself, the engine wasn't a total labyrinth cluster fuck designed to prevent you from fixing it. College was actually a pathway to success in most fields minus arts. Everybody went outside for the most part, my suburban life was always the best on weekends. Neighbors would host cookouts that the whole street came to.

Oh yeah, and the country was about 25% more white and still 13% black.

It's not just the technology that we didn't have it's what we did have. The OG video game consoles and analog recording and old ways of making comic books and things were sick as fuck and superior to modern technology for those things. Modern movie cameras make movies look fake and stupid compared to the "inferior" older cameras and film.

>Cold War is over. We won.
>Only major conflict we had boots on the ground in was over in 40 days.
>Economy was mostly good.
>Crime was still a problem, but had significantly improved compared to the 70s and 80s.
>That perfect window in time when computers and the internet and vidya were all things, but hadn't yet gone mainstream and been ruined by social media and algorithms and smartphones and shit.
>Lot of good entertainment... apart from the music, I'll be the first to admit 90s music was fucking garbage.

Lowkey even then people were degened and not high quality, public school kids were fucktards, and their parents fed them fruit gushers and Coca Cola and videogames. People were proud to be dumb and thought learning was “gay”, and people were spiritually dead, allowing old world things like Halloween and communities exist, but they were on their way down, you could tell.

Everwhere back then you could see hints of the communist infiltration preparing itself to tear its ugly head, the slow boil started long before then, but the temperatures then were acceptable. See the columbine shooters: “outsiders” yet dressed the same as their peer and wore and liked very similar things. Now look at the average 90’s-2000’s kid, they had punks and skaters and emo’s, subcultures of sadness and rebellion arose to mourn the loss of the old world. And look around today, everyone’s a freak, a mockery of the world, because they all know it’s all fucked up.

I was an emo way back, I didn’t know any other emo kids through the 4 schools I went to, and I’m brought to such a mustardy glee these days, looking at every subculture and seeing how they’re all just pretty much emo with extra features.

We used to be this dying breed..
One day we’ll get nostalgic for disaster..
We’re only good for the latest trends..
They’ll all be doing it tomorrow..
We have to go back
https://youtu.be/PiNdcBg3xC8
Go ahead and tell them again.
Well I think that I know that I won't forgive them,
for turning their backs when we started to get busy.
Well, yeah twice is fine, but three times is just right.
Would be wishing you the best but then I’d be wishing you
https://youtu.be/RKBRdjkYTYE

They’re just jealous cuz we’re young and in love, our stomachs filled up, but we’re starved for conversation, and we’re spending all our nights growing old in our bed, and we’re tearing up the photos, cuz we wanna forget; it’s over.

>the puritanical christian zealotry was on the way out, the marxist woke poz had not even appeared yet
>all edgy anime OVAs were coming from Japan while all the cool and goon anime like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon were made
>in the west you had god tier quality cartons like Batman TAS, Animaniacs, Tinny Toons, Ducktales, and many more
>the silver age of comics was done and we could finally have edgy heavy metal anti hero comics full of all the tits and violence the CCA denied previous generations
>videogames noticeably improved with every new console, computers keep getting better and better
>early internet was as free as the wild west and completly descentralized
>90s kids were nihilist who were watching the world going down the drain in real, but shit wasn't so dismally bad yet so many could still afford to hold some hope for the future
>it was a politically and economically stable decade for the most part and technology was developing to become more efficient and user friendly than to nickel and dime consummers

The video games / cartoons / comics / hobbies and distractions were good, but the actual "times" and people were shit... And are still shit, Anons

These "times" are a bit better with ALOT more counter culture compared to then, but more or less it's the same shit
