It makes the world seem so empty and bleak

Find problems that you have and solve them. For me I have trouble waking up and find ways to help with that, and I'm online too much which I'm also solving.
It's brought satisfaction seeing progress in those areas for me. Find solutions to your problems and see what sticks.
