I just installed a chess app on smartphone recently. Last time i played chess was like 30 years ago as a kid in elementary school.

99.9% of players are Indians and plenty of exotic flags i cant even identify. Meeting a representative of NATO/EU country is rare af. How is this even possible? xD

BTW, i started playing literally hours ago after learning about rules and how ever chessboard piece behaves.

Vid-rel is my last game i had few hours ago, and i actually paid attention. Any chess pro to express opinion about this? Could i be good if i decide to play everyday? My IQ osicilates around 160-180, depending on tests.
>>
nobody fucking cares about your childhood or your stupid hobby on your cheap android piece of shit

>Could i be good if i decide to play everyday?
Anyone can master chess with enough practice.
>>
>>538864404
I do, so shut the fuck up, you raging homosexual.
>>
>>538864404
Android is cool, especially the special modded version i use combined with modded hardware xD
>>
>>538864294
You're also wasting precious moves by making too many pawn moves.
>>
>>538864294
>Playing at 200 elo
>Surprised that he play with brownoids
I don't wanna be rude but white players start at 1200+ at worst
>>
>>538864587
I use frequent pawn moves as a distractor to "hypnotize" the opponent.
>>
>>538864294
I thought chess would be fun. I'm relatively smart according to tests so I thought it could be up my alley.

Then I learned it's autistic memorization of opening lines and at the top level everyone draws or stalemates or whatever. Nowadays the chess engines help you find the next best endgame move for when u find yourself in similar positions rather than pure ingenuity.

Someone change my view or am I right? It doesn't seem being good at chess translates to like, anything. Same problem with trading except at least you can earn money there
>>
>>538864593
I started playing yesterday. It will take some time to climb higher.
>>
>>538864294
You mated someone rated 224 in 15 moves. The only people at that rating are women and children. If it had taken you more than 20 moves you might be legally retarded.

Play speed chess.
>>
>>538864636
I will say I'm fascinated by the quirks of the variations in Asia. I just learned you can 'drop' captured shogi pieces back on the board, which is pretty dope but seems like a long ass game then
>>
>>538864657
It's not like you start at 1200 elo when you make an account and you need to loose a lot games to drop to 200?

I am not a chess pro. I played like few times in life. But if i decided to play everyday, i am sure i could be the champion of this app

>>

Brown turdies, jeets in particular are obsessed with performative actions which mirror what they perceive as markers of intelligence; it points to their collective insecurity and desires. Chess, algebra, puzzles, circuitry etc. Its performative of course because irl jeets are dumb as fuck, almost completely unable to think in abstractions or objectively separate themselves from a simile.
>>538864404
Good point. Fpbp as usual.
>>
>>538864697
Am I just playing against people who have already done all that memorization tho? That does seem like a good tip

Like all the top dudes seem to skew more towards bullet or like Fischer invented 960 to get away from the issues I mentioned. But they are gods already. Do noobs play bullet or blitz usually?
>>
>>538864834
Speed chess is like fighting. There is no excuse. Either learn the martial arts, or get fucked.

My account started with 400 points. I lost some games in the beginning when i was learning rules. I dropped to 250 and now it is stable. I have 50% wins, 50% losses but recently i am climbing up - only slow because one win adds like 8 points
>>
>>538864738
Yes, I'm sure if you play every day, in a few months you'll beat magnus carlsen and hikaru nakamura.
>>
>>538864294
You're in 200 ELO. Good job on your mate but you're literally playing against noobs who never played a game of chess in their life. You will eventually climb and plateau to what ELO you are actually supposed to be in. Now realistically, with much practice and study, you could rise 1800-2000 chesscom elo, but if you haven't been playing since you were a child, you're not gonna be a titled player. But being 1800 is still pretty good.
>t. Hardstuck 1200
>>
>>538864809
True. But you get good with real combat and experience.
>>
>>538864913
I guess I'm not that interested. I'm already a skilled martial artist irl since grappling was typically part of combat sport/martial arts so I don't need your faggot mental bushido larp
You convinced me chess is much gayer than I thought

I'll let it go. Someone do better than this loser.
>>
>>538864294

How on earth can you have so low elo? I have never had under 1000. Not even when I started.
>>
>>538864294
chess is a retarded faggot game
>>
>>538864792
I could beat you while drunk and blindfolded without even trying. And I'm not even good at chess lol.
>>
>>538864636
you have no idea what you are talking about.

stalemate is just irrelevant to everything you are discussing. draws are an issue but much less so in recent years due to GM draws (agreeing to a draw early in the game) being made illegal in most tournaments.

i could personally crush 99.9% of 4chan by opening with 1. a4 so opening memorization isn’t the issue.

the problem is endless amounts of cheating and the controversies that surround cheating.

>>
>>538865044
I opened account yesterday with 400 points and lost few games in the beginning during learning the rules and how pieces behave on chessboard. Thats why i fell to 250, but now it is stable and it goes up.
>>
>>538864294
>>538864294
Chess is lame and repetitive. It's just memorization. I recommend downloading MTG arena and playing Magic the Gathering.

You're probably low level since you're knew, and you're playing against low IQ jeets.

Magic is way better and more fun. Play historic.
>>
>>538864636
all of these things are fucking irrelevant unless your the top 1% of players, stop being a fag and play you fucking pussy
>>
>>538865055
I think anybody can beat me now as i played chess decades ago and only few times.
>>
>>538865077
Tell me. What's the different between combat, and chess?
https://youtu.be/gf0_kQ_5PXY
>>
>>538864636
They certainly don't stalemate at the highest level, that stops being a thing at like 400 elo.
They draw a lot, but it's not actually the flaw of the game itself but rather that players choose pussyfoot drawing lines because often in tournaments there's a lack of incentive to try to go for a win and risk losing, if a draw (that's ½ a point) is sufficient enough so they usually go for that. But there's a pajeet at the elite level, his name is Gukesh, who is known for always playing for either a win or a loss because he's cray cray like that. After watching him people realized that Chess at the highest level isn't necessarily as drawish as hithero thought, it just that the tournament structures don't encourage it.
Games between two top engines are drawish though but humans don't play at that level.
>>
>>538865257
Yeah, lots of draws indeed
>>
>>538864671
Before I started playing again I would have spent 50 moves taking all his pieces before delivering a ladder mate.
>>
>>538865069
But crushing newbies isn't how chess works

Surely you are using an opening line against a real player at your level, yeah?

I honestly don't want that to be a part of the game but like there's a new name in the corner for every single new move in the first 30. "Agrippa defense" or some nonsense then changes to a totally different thing 1 move later.

I really don't want it to be that way. Convince me it's not. But all I hear is study opening lines

There just needs to be a half point thing or something so definite results can happen. It really puts me off viewing it. I'd rather watch go.
>>
>>538864294
I was going to give shit. But I read the post keep playing and read some theory you'll get better. A lot of people play chess. I have gotten the a few Indian flags but not that many. At least on my side of the world I mostly get people from the US Canada Mexico Brazil. A few Europeans.
>>
>>538864294
You're the one with a supposed IQ between 160-180 so why the fuck are you asking us? It would be like going into the retard class for help with maths
>>
>>538864294
because white natroons don't think. They just obey israel. Leave the heavy mental intellect for strong brown people everywhere. little wyboi timmy just put his helmet on and ride his electric bicycle all day
>>
>>538864294
Because you're on the low Elo rank with the other brown retards.
>>
>>538865177
Magic might be more fun online but I didn't enjoy getting into heated battles with some hard to interpret rules(for us noobs) with my buddies. I don't want to beat up on my friends or cheese them with my ridiculous regen green deck
>>
>>538864761
Stop giving him shit, he is just starting
>>
>>538865257
That's a slightly better outlook. Thanks.
>>
I'm a chess noob who hasn't played since I was a kid. Never read any manual on openings and the like but here are my two cents.

Chess prowess is not inherently a measure of intellect, and given the abundance of literature on moves it's even more worthless on that regard. It's really no different to any other game, like Dota for instance. How well you do depends on how much effort you put into it and how many hours you dedicate to learning all the possible positions.

In order for real intellect to be tested, you have to measure your inherent prowess across an unending series of ever changing games. So for instance play yir first ever 100 games of chess with other people playing their first 100 games of chess, then never play chess again and movie on to first 100 games of shogi, first 100 games of go etc, never returning to chess.

Chess just gets undue prestige because it's been around for a while, kinda like Christianity.
>>
>>538864636
1. Opening moves are just a small part of the game and while you can lose with a shitty opening you're not going to win just from a good opening. Think of them as something like builds.
2. Knowing the fundamentals of opening play is a way bigger deal than the specific moves. Many long lines of "book moves" are pretty self explanatory and you don't need to memorize them to play them, just do what makes sense.
3. Engines help you get a grasp of what a good move is but if you can't see the reasoning the engine won't help you get better. It's more like to check your work.
>>
>>538865200
Yeah but I can destroy the people who would destroy the people who would destroy the people who would destroy you. And again, I'm not even decent at chess compared to casual tournament players.
>>
>>538865344
They've played lots of games so the positions have been reached before and they gave them names. You can reach a new position eventually and it happens all the time.
>>
>>538864294
Chess is such a slog to me.
I quit a club chess career to play first person shooters, starting with Quake rocket arena. Back in 1994-5.

Still gives me thrills that old mod.

I had promise too, stalemated a 2300 player in a rated tournament.

Nothing beats the thrill of the present to me in an FPS game though.
>>
>>538865533
Russian flags normally are pretty good players.
>>
>>538865523
IQ determines your starting point, learning rate and hard cap.
>>
>>538865533
So make the account and lets play
>>
>>538865590
Shut up, Mossad.
>>
>>538865451
Yeah arena is way better than IRL. People can't cheat and it kind of guides newer players on what they're able to do, like if you can respond to something. I was in the top 200 players in historic a few months back. I just like that it's completely customizable, you can build a deck to do things and deal with problems, where chess, is just the same game game over and over with a "best move" that robots can win at. In magic, it comes down to the tactics you use and how you're able to interact with the other player. You get destroyed by a certain type of deck because it's good, then you can make your own, better version.

Like having a 15/15 with lifelink and annihilator 10 on turn 2.

>>538864294

it doesn't matter what your iq is, it is seeing patterns and creatively hiding you intention whilst maneovering your peices to maximise potential

if you think you are so smart push up the engine levels, you'll soon find out the engine is much better than you are.
>>
>>538865823
Take your meds.
>>
>>538865652
So does many other things.
Patience, delayed gratification, innate interest, etc.
Point is with so many variables it's impossible to determine IQ with a single game especially one that is so well-studied.

The only way to determine IQ is invent a completely different game every 5 years and hold a tournament for them every 5 years later and average people's success over their lives. Bwess, Qless, etc, some playing like a TCG, some playing like Risk, etc.

>>538865877

I would guess a reasonably intelligent beginner, just knowing the rules, but not knowing strategies and not having much practice would be at around 400-500

How? It’s a board game.
>>
>>538865996
Chess doesnt measure intellect, i guess. It measures domain-specific pattern recognition and memorized heuristics, not fluid IQ. Biologically, it relies on myelinated neural pathways from practice. Psychologically, its expert intuition (System 1). A 180-IQ beginner like me lacks this chess-specific database, hence scores onky 250 despite high general intelligence. Thats my theory. Chess is just a sport.

I have this app but don’t do anything but the puzzles. I’m pretty horrendous at it and I’d imagine that losing every online game I play would be pretty depressing. The same thing happens every time I try to play ultimate team on fifa and it honestly feels like I’ve been born to suffer.
>>
>>538866307
I am bad at chess. Is he as good as he claims he is?
>>
>>538865996

Most players start by memorising opennings .. bad idea .. start with endgame probelms, then mid game problens

also it takes many players a few years before they get the idea of sacrificing their pieces for position or tempo .. some players never really get it
>>
>>538865044
Chess.com is weird
There was a massive spike when that queens gambit show came out
Before then you didnt get many sweats playing and your account would start at ~700

Now new accounts start at 400 and you'll likely play bots half the time
Or players using "gotcha" plays to trick out new players
Then because of bots normal players get pushed down
I'm only 800 (was 1000) elo but it was a slog to get there - you eventually look forward to people playing weird gambits
And in the 1000s people play normal games
I can regularly beat 1200 bots and solve puzzles without issue and ive beaten every person in my office
but who knows chess is weird one blunder can fuck up a whole game
>>
>>538866371
Seeing as he's bragging that he could defeat a 200 rated moron while drunk, I'm sure that's true.

He defeated my meme opening because I'm retarded, but his elo is probably decent.
>>
>>538866235
Kek I always accept gambits but then play the most milquetoast boring line unless it's against the KG. In any case, f3 just kills the stafford unless black is stronger than white.
>>
>>538866439
Indeed, haha.
I fucking love the Stafford, my main issue with it is that low level retards aren't able to think themselves into trouble, and competent players shit all over it.

But that one match out of 50 where it just works, man that's why I play it every chance I get.
