Europeans hate Russians not because of who we are specifically, but rather because this time is a rare occasion that their governments have allowed them to hate a group of people freely without any social consequences. Europeans have spent decades living in conditions when they were vastly restricted from publicly expressing disdain or even slight dissatisfaction with any given group, - they had to like Africans, they had to like Muslims, they had to like the gay community etc. The only people they could publicly dislike were a distant group of nationalists that were a way to vague concept to take seriously. Thing is - no matter how much the European governments want to suppress the natural feeling of hatred towards certain groups, it does not simply go away, even if you persecute people for expressing it and silence them. Now Europeans have been finally given a greenlight by their leadership to vent that long-suppressed hatred on someone, so they are going all out, they have been finally given a chance to relieve themselves.
