This actually lead to many companies going bankrupt because they accumulated too many workers with long pensions. That drove the need to create the 401k system, which then gets raped by the market, bailouts, economy crashes and recessions. Pensions stayed the same regardless of company outcome. This also created the short term, temp employees, seasonal workers, and the dynamic of revolving door employment. Dont keep employees for more than 5yrs type deal. Squeaky wheels get replaced, you will train your replacement and future bosses.
