Communism can trace it's roots as a thought experiment back to at least Plato's republic, where philosophers mentally masterbate about a society where they are on top. It rears its ugly head every so often and seems to fail every time it is tried. It clearly represents something deep within to the western man, but it seems to be a bad thing overall. Contrast this with marxism which, aside from being a pretty poor outline for a revolution based entirely on a microcosm of rapidly industrializing era is more concerned with what we would call critical theory. Which is examining first principles and looking for self interested motives being rationalized. This too seems to be weaponized against the west, despite being the most open to criticism even from foreigners. Ultimately both hold some important ideas that have their place in western canon however that place is in the realm of ideas.
