This used to be a discord server for organizing community events in a dying online video game, but ever since the Ukrainian invasion started a bunch of the mods (all Finns) took over the server and turned it into their personal war chatroom.Half the messages in the server now are them discussing articles about the war and videos of Russian oil refineries burning. Anyone who asks them to make a separate channel for war related shit gets banned or muted. One of the mods admitted to doing his own personal "investigation" of a long time member of the channel who he suspected of being a Russian, and when it turned out the guy was Serbian the mod banned him anyways.The absolute worst are the ones who think their mandatory year of military "service" makes them a seasoned war expert on par with a veteran that's seen actual combat. There's one guy who's obsessed with "open source intelligence", which basically means scrolling through twitter all day sending every single tweet about Ukraine that he thinks is important.I'm curious if Finns have a name for this type of person. With your mandatory conscription and proximity to Russia I'd image these guys are fairly common. In the US we have JROTC kids which are more or less the same thing, kids who want to grow up to be Marines and wear combat fatigues to school and run wearing weighted backpacks and stuff like that.

The latter usually consist of the dregs of society without better employment prospects, whereas universal conscription means the material is average citizens. On top of that, pure defense forces like ours (as opposed to expeditionary forces) also have the advantage that they only have to know their home turf. The arctic forest is all we ever need to know but for your guys it's just another environment. So don't feed too bad about getting dabbed on by a bunch of spurdos.Finns usually are the opposite of your JROTC kids. Understand that military service is not a fancy or special thing here, it's just a mundane part of life that every man goes through. I can't imagine any kid voluntarily wearing kurkkusalaatti to school, absolutely not lol. Some start improving their health before entering service as is suggested, but nobody would make a number out of it.
