"the book was studied" said between two egyptians might be understood in a way different to how we are translating it directly. there is nuance in langauge which doesn't come across on the page. it might be clear to them what is meant and people could be reading too much into it. "speakers often prefer..." is a judgement call. many might just speak that way because thats how they speak, it might not be conscious coping at all.
