The cost of living crisis is caused by overpopulation and by inflation. Overpopulation means there are more mouths to feed and people to house than ever. Iraq and Afghanistan doubled their populations in the past quarter century.Inflation is caused by a phenomenon known as fractional reserve banking. When you put your money in the bank, it uses this money as collateral to loan out ten times as much money. That is why a run on the bank would cause the financial system to collapse. The banks owe many times more money than they actually have. It is the same as if you had 10$ in the bank and you wrote cheques worth 10$ to a thousand different people. When the banks are in danger of insolvency, the government gives them hard cash to repay their depositors with, to avoid a repeat of 1929. Because the banks are constantly dectupling the amount of money they are given, they in effect have infinite money to loan out to whoever they want. For this reason the official money supply (even though since all this is fake money there are many different ways of measuring it) doubles every 10 years or so. It is currently around 20 trillion. In 2010 it was around 10 trillion. In 2000 it was around 5 trillion. When this whole process started in the early 20th century it was around 5 billion, which is why everything was extremely cheap back then. If you imagine someone going around with the ability to generate infinite money, who buys whatever he desires, and he claims publicly that this is to stimulate economic growth, then that is how western finance has worked for the past century.
