The same goes for the eastern pacific pods that travel from upper west coast USA to Alaska. The natives that stay there year-round eat primarily salmon and travel with the salmon schools as they migrate. The passer-bys that travel from Hawaii to Alaska eat primarily fish and mammals such as dolphins and sharks seals and such. They can both be in the same bay at the same time but they stay to themselves apart from each other. Biologists claim these orcas speak a different language just as different as french, japaneese, and english. These pods recognize the others by their sounds but dont understand the language so they keep apart. You wouldnt go to Germany and mingle with everyone like nothing was wrong because you as an English speaker could not talk with them. Same thing with the Orcas. The pods are led by "grandmothers" the older females of the pod and those pods typically stay together forever. As long as biologists have been tracking Orcas they have noticed this behavior where Orcas dont intermingle from one pod to another.
