This is a growing movement in Republican states. Seems like they will try to enact it federally now too. The end result will be poor kids with stupid parents getting homeschooling (never taught anything) so the parents can pocket the cash. Wealthy kids go to private schools because they can afford it. Middle class kids with parents that work too hard use the funds to start their kids in private school. Private schools go the way of the university system and increase their tuition the same rate federal government helps support. Some number of middle class kids and poor kids families genuinely benefit as they are intelligent enough to properly home school and can pocket the cash. I will be in the segment that greatly benefits but I see how this is probably the wrong move, kvetching of Teacher Unions aside. The real solution to fixing public schooling isnt to pull the funds, its to put the bite back in punishment for misbehaving (actual suspensions and whatnot), not performing (hold them back!), and better oversight of fund use. No more teams of 6 figure admins at every school.

Why can't Americans read?The First Amendment to the Constitution does not say a damn thing about protecting religious freedom. The Establishment Clause prohibits Congress from establishing a state religion by first saying right out that it cannot establish a state religion, then by saying that the Congress cannot write laws excluding religions, so that a religion could not be established by the default of outlawing all other religions. At no time does it say the Congress MUST protect religions or religious freedom, ONLY that it cannot itself write laws prohibiting religions, AND only for the purpose of making sure they do not establish a religion by prohibiting all others. It is perfectly okay for Congress to write laws prohibiting religious practices, just not the religions themselves, as they have done numerous times throughout our history. The Founding Fathers were quite clear about this and all other interpretations are outright lies by liars, who clearly demonstrate why religion and religious hypocrisy, with their ends justify the means lies, cannot be allowed anywhere near the management of the government.
