Does AI Sloppa actually harm the environment? I think it's just a shitlib talking point but I've never actually seen cases where the problem they present actually happens, It's annoying and I can't filter it but the only problem I see is just RAM being expensive.
>>538967097If you've seen the damage data centers do to the surrounding environment and population, you'd know it's true. Power bills rise drastically because the government chooses to make the public pay for the data center's electricity costs rather than the companies. Water pressure slows to a dribble, and what little water does come out is cloudy and brown. Noise pollution is bad too, that many fans running at once can be heard for miles. Animals suffer too, the noise pollution stops farm cattle from breeding.
>>538967097I guess you could look at it that way in the same sense that people you dislike harm the environment by just existing
>>538967097>Does AI Sloppa actually harm the environment?Short answer is: Yes, those datacenters in America run extremely ineficient brute force algorithms, that in turn consumes an absurd amount of energy and water, that in turn hurt the environment.Long Answer: Its not just the environment but the economy, the American AI sector works not by supplying the consumer with goods and services but by doing circular deals with other companies, its a gigantic ponzi scheme, the only way to sustain the ponzi scheme is throwing more resources into the scheme, in that regard Energy and water also a resources, not only you are polluting the environment but also diverting valuable assets ( affordable energy/water ) from productive industry towards a speculative ponzi scheme, Nature will recover, but your country will not...
>>538967472That too. When the bubble pops, and it will, we are so fucked. All this "progress" to beat China in the AI race will be for nothing.
>>538967097Ai says it's racist to blame South Americans who make their kids deaf by taking them to loud football games. Which is bad because deaf people cost money
Yeah, in particularly inefficient data centers there's also been reports of lung related illness in the people living around them, as well as tainted/used up drinking water.
>>538967097It depends on where the data center is located. Some pollute more, some less. In Finland data centers need to spend less energy on cooling because the environment already being cool helps. I think most of them also recycle the heat the machines generate by using it to heat nearby homes.
I'm spendin' bout $200 a month on AI access to different stuff, will gladly spend $1000 when it's ready. Fable 5 is awesome
>>538967097have you ever tried running an llm on your machine? an actual good one?now imagine supplying everyone's demand
Capitalism seeks to consume all of the environment to make shitty ai videos, commie blocks for Indian immigrants and cheap chink toys at the expense of community, faith and fulfilment. That's why it must be ended.
>>538967097Consumes a lot of water and power along with rare earths to build the electronics they use. So yeah technically.
