【Breaking News】Akihabara: Maid Cafes Plummet from Over 100 to Under 30... The City Transforms into a Street with Over 200 Concept Cafes, That Golden Age of Akiba Is Gone Forever

>Problem of too many indians
>Problem of too many foreigners
>Problem of the cafe in front of AKB Theater Station disappearing
>Problem of the Gundam Cafe disappearing
Problem of the Bakuste Sokanda Ichome store disappearing

Why didn't you stop it Goshujin-sama?
>>
Going to a maid cafe feels like a humiliation ritual. I don't know how Jap millennial nerds did it. They must have been less self-aware and just followed their instincts.
>>

>Problem of too many foreigners

Without foreigners who the fuck would visit those cafes?
>>
>>539041112
That's the joke, no one. Akiba post the 00s is an absolute joke and she'll of it's former self. Exclusively for ironic weeb types to basedjak over brand store slop and the SOD meme like seeing some JAV in a bikini is scandalous. Japan in general has declined significantly since the 90s, but at least there are loads of runaway menhera tards to keep you company for fuck all.
>>
>>539041112
I have no idea. I don't want to go to Starbucks where everyone is dressed like at a con that just sounds... annoying. Give me some shit like Rainforest Cafe or something. This maid cafe shit is embarrassing
>>
>>539041046
Wtf, they’re not even dressed sexy. Is that what maid cafe’s have always been like?
>>
what the fuck is a maid cafe?
>>
>>539041112
>The current image of Akiba feels more like a symbol of Japanese subculture aimed at foreigners, not really an otaku town anymore.

shit's not moe enough
>>
>>539041224
>Japan in general has declined significantly since the 90s
Lost decade, amirite?
>>
>>539041266
They just baby talk, are super attentive and call you master, that's the whole appeal. Just the most superficial animoo fantasy for half an hour.
>>
>>539041308
Concept like Hooters except its with maids. Theres not only maid cafes though, theres also other themed ones like demon girls and stuff but thats mostly reserved for shisha bars and other more adult shops.
>>
>>539041112
Yes, they relied on us after the United States crippled Japan's economy and had to cater to us.
>>
>>539041046
Ask yourself
>Would you go to a maid cafe?
I love Japan, no questions asked but this shit is cringe af
Jap girls now go to host bars to give them money so they hang around with them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUK35VQpUYg
Japan is so fucking lost
>>
>>539041046
Good. When I first went to Akihabara in 2006, maid cafes was never the main attraction like it is today. It was all about anime, manga and video games which was always the true core roots of contemporary Akihabara. Last time I was in Akiba in 2022 it was nothing but Maid Cafes and felt more like a Pattaya-lite red light district full of plebbit-using troon tourists than an actual Otaku paradise of endless hard-to-find/old/classic/unknown manga, arcades, video games and anime like how it used to be. Gooners and plebbitors fucking ruined anime and Japanese cultural entertainment as a whole, hopefully this is the start of correcting itself some time soon.
>>
>>539041046
I also prefered Tokyo 15 years ago.
But this "Japan was better before" shit is just Millenials getting old.
>>
>>539041405
They have fucking bars where women will dress in BDSM and whip you but yeah I wanna go to the maid cafe...
>>
>>539041224
This guy got it right, Akihabara was a place to get cheap electronics and computer clones until the US sanctioned Japan for copying their chips. Rendering japan out of the computer market, Intel got ahead and everyone left their NECs, leaving VNs and eroges as their way to stand out and keep their businesses, little did they know it would become a cultural phenomenon though.
>>
>>539043226
>But this "Japan was better before" shit is just Millenials getting old.

It literally was though, when I first went to Tokyo in the mid-2000's it was impossible to find other western tourists, even in Shibuya and Akihabara. No immigrants working the 7/11's or Family Marts either. Now everywhere you go it's all the worst of the worst normalfag Stacy's and Todds and plebbit troons tourists.
>>
>>539041046
James May did irrepairable reputational damage to maid cafes
>>
That's sad. My wife wanted to go to a maid cafe. I'd never wanna go to Akiba in the modern era. Maybe if this was 1995, sure. Everything is jacked up in price and I'm guessing too many tourists.
>>
>>539041112
Foreigners don't really enjoy those places since you really need to like irl maids being cringe and since the specialty of the place is the theme, the food is notorious for sucking balls.
>>
>>539043198
Ahhh 2006. You would have seen the just completed Crossfields building and UDX. I saw it first about that time all brand new and shiny.
>>
The Japan everyone wanted to visit was 1970s-2000s. Japan has been cooked since, however post Covid Japan is on a whole other level.
>>
>>539043412
When visiting for major product launches like the Nintendo DS Id skip the stuidly long queus in Akiba and silly prices and just go yo nontourist suburban tokyo out on the trainlines and no queues to pick up local purchasing from department stores. No queues. Akiba can be silly for visitors.
>>
>>539041046

I hate fakeroom
>>
>>539043338
>It literally was though, when I first went to Tokyo in the mid-2000

By 2000, Japan had been in a recession for 10 years already.
So people at the time probably said that it was better in the 1980s.

Then in the 1980s, people probably said that Tokyo had lost its charm and it was better in the 1960s.

Then in the 1960s... and so on, down to the Edo period when everything was so so much better.
And every time you say this, it will be true on many aspects, because you disregard everything that was shit (ie not possible for a foreigner to get a bank account back then).
>>
>>539043604
Seeing Indians in every single store really dampens the mood doesn't it? No maids, No otaku, shitty arcades, shitty scores.

The Globohomo spares no one.
>>
>>539041308
A cultural fad that's long since played out.
>>
>>539043739
>No otaku
The classical otaku market is basically dead and has been replaced with gacha games years ago.
>>
>>539041104
maid cafes are great ive been to like 7
>>
>>539043338
>Tokyo in the mid-2000's it was impossible to find other western tourists, even in Shibuya and Akihabara
Btw, just go outside the literal town center of Tokyo and you won't find many tourists.
You go to Yokohama (20mn train) and there's very few foreign tourists already.

Exactly.
It's fucking lame and I have no idea why people even go there
>>
>>539041046
I don't want to interact with a Japanese woman in a maid outfit unless I'm fucking her.

Akihaba is a mess, last time I went it was absolutely packed. A lot of Tokyo areas have gotten substantially worse in the last 6 years though

retard website, now go back to your original shithole.
>>
>>539043626
If I were to ever go there I'd prefer go as far away from the major cities as possible. It's pretty much the same advice I give foreigners. You dont HAVE to go to LA/NYC/Chicago, just go to some small town.
>>
>>539043712
>Then in the 1980s, people probably said that Tokyo had lost its charm and it was better in the 1960s.
>Then in the 1960s... and so on, down to the Edo period when everything was so so much better.

Maybe... just maybe... things have been slowly getting worse over the decades, especially since the 1960's. Did you ever stop to think of that? Perhaps these observations of things getting worse and worse over time have all been collectively and objectively true. There's a reason so many people fixate on the 1950's as the peak of civilization, even today. Wild thought, I know.

>>539041046
Went to Japan 4 times for holidays and work. Gf is Japanese. I never once went to Tokyo. Booking a flight again today and will gladly pay more to not fly on Tokyo. Capital cities almost always suck ass. Almost everybody over here who's not from Amsterdam hates it, as do I for the degenerate Weimar dystopia it is. I guess the same goes for every capital city in every country. Berlin, Paris, London, Rome, Madrid. All shitholes too.
>>
>>539041046
These were retarded scam cafes that exploited retarded school girls, maybe it worked back in the day or maybe it was illegal prostitution but shit was always sus.

Its the same thing with the thousands of tiny little scam bars in Japan, why do they even exist they are all over the place and across from each other. Its just money laundering and scams.
>>
>>539044071
It's just a big "one dollar store" for tourists, what do you guys expect there?
>>
>>539043900
Going to far flung boring suburbs and outskirts will never fill the void of having seen central Tokyo with no tourists or normies in previous times. It had all the energy and buzz of these areas today but was 100% authentic Japanese culture on steroids.

>You go to Yokohama

I've been. Yokohama is boring as fuck and is clearly built/designed by America/English foreign investors, it feels more like you're in a small city in New England than in proper Japan, It's all not completely foreign-free as there are a lot of sailors and navy-tards from the States.
>>
>>539044185
I can tell you're a Zoomer because capital and large cities actually used to be great in both Europe and Asia (and yes, even the US), and not even that long ago. The problem with capital and large cities today that did not exist in previous years is low IQ migrants and social media (normy scum and plebbitors over sharing these places and ruining every single niche spot). Even London and NYC used to be awesome places to visit before, say, 2010.
>>
Didn't know about this, they have everything. I just saw one for a Cafe where the women all dress like office jobs with skirts and shit. Zamn.
>>
>>539044891
Holy fuck they have ones where the girls dress as pirates and witches they have everything fetish. Man these guys have always been centuries ahead.

>>539041046
That's how Akihabara works, it keeps evolving and changing. First it was Radio nerds, then families buying appliances, then Salarymen buying Hi-Fi shit, then PC nerds. Weebs and Maids were also a phase, now it's the era of the gacha shit, Poojeet workers and Chink tourists.

Yokohama has decent convention centre. I attended Hugo awards there in 2000s.
