Japan is a bit of a Potemkin village of a country. Everyone sees the clean streets and low crime rates but they don’t see that the cleanliness starts and ends on the street simply because everyone is motivated entirely by saving face in public, which in turn lends itself to police just ignoring blatant crimes behind closed doors or or against certain people and frankly just completely not giving a shit about doing what’s right or just which is what ends up to a big degree creating those low crime rates. So if you expect your Japanese wife to be clean at home, they won’t be. If you expect your Japanese daughter’s rape to be taken seriously, it won’t be. A lot of the great stuff people see about this country are either happy accidents resulting from pretty fucked up cultural norms of just a complete fugayzi.
