The post-war academics were highly, highly motivated to deconstruct nazism and the best they could come up with is "it's a parody of a religious text". The three supposed authors are all claimed to have taken the secret of its "forgery" to their graves despite intense debate in the 1870s and Ottema being an ardent believer in its authenticity. That the paper is wrong is addressed in the document itself. That the language is a neo-Frisian with Dutch grammar and puns heavily adapted to the circumstances on the 1860s/1870s aligns as easily with a refinement of a transposed document as with a whole cloth forgery and not documentary evidence has ever surfaced demonstrating admission or confession of forgery. I personally think the document is a transposed older manuscript that was adapted to create a modern Dutch parody by some clever academics. So the truth is in the middle.
