A random 7/10 weekend rental for your PS2 would have Christopher Walken and Gary Oldman in the cast. It wasn't an uncommon belief back then that video games would replace Hollywood. 20 years later and Sony no longer makes discs. GTA 6 will be all digital. You go into a Walmart or Best Buy today and they don't advertise that they sell video games. The electronics section is all laptops, phones and accessories, and a corner section with a pathetic selection of games. Did us millenals just vastly overrate the potential of video games? Was it always destined to become the Fortnite box for kids that is irrelevant to the adult world?

Gaming right now is bigger than ever, but also more online now than ever. The internet reduced the need for stores to have big stocks of games and advertising is now targeted instead of videogames in some random magazine. Even people who primarily play single player games get their single player game information and buy things online. There are celebrities in games currently. Some ones I can immediately think of are Matthew McConaughey in Exodus, Ellie Fanning in a Kojima game, the guy from The Walking Dead in another Kojima game, the new GOW will have Deborah Ann Woll. But Fortnite does have a lot of celebrities.
