Charlie's life was spent gish-galloping kids who had no debate experience. Similar to Bill OReilly when he had guests and would just keep interrupting them everytime they started to speak. He otherwise avoided debating anyone who could match or beat him. Unfortunately it worked, since debate is not about changing your opponent's mind, but being perceived as the "winner" in the mind of the audience.
