They pair the virtue signaling of progressivism with NIMBY suburban attitudes and preserving home ownership, they use it to compensate for the white guilt and to feel cool/part of "the image". They bring the aesthetics and vibe of the "startup" techbro sort of culture, but without the money to back it up, and it mixes with the performative progressivism. In the 2020s, the debt piles up more, more cracks in the facade, 2020 riots happen, police abandon their posts because they have to deal with junkies who are coddled and virtue signalers, normal people want to leave, even the old Gen X artfags are sick of it, and the draw is now for trannies and antifa types.
