Half the country looks like a construction site that's never going to be finished.People driving the wrong way on the highway, people braking in front of you at night on the highway to ask for a light, corrupt cops, disgusting stray dogs, bad food, no pretty buildings... Durrës is the ugliest and most boring city I've ever seen in my life. Even Ludwigshafen or Dortmund were a feast for the eyes compared to it.But the worst thing about Albania is the people. It's not that they were unfriendly or impolite, you never felt unsafe either, they were just extremely uninterested in everything. We didn't get a single question answered in a whole week that we asked. You'd ask waiters if they served cocktails and they'd think about it for 60 seconds and the brilliant idea would be: "Aperol?" The bar had everything imaginable in spirits. "Can you recommend something on the menu?" "No" The tour guide who took us to the dam told us that he had been doing this tour twice a day for a long time. He couldn't tell us how high the mountain was, let alone what it was called. He couldn't say anything at all about the flora and fauna either.Since the Giro Italia was going through Albania at the time, the highway was closed. No taxi driver knew about it. They didn't even know what it was.

You'll never understand it because you've never lived it. Albanians did not have a communism like anyone else, it got much, much worse as time went on. The 70s and 80s were not liberalized mini yugoslavias. People were getting imprisoned and disappeared left and right for wearing white jeans because they were too western. In the 1970s. Not even the USSR was this authoritarian. Only North Korea could even come close. It traumatized entire generations of people into this paranoid mess you see today. Albanians who move to the west hate everybody, even other Albanians, they simply don't associate with anyone because they don't trust them. They don't trust neighbors because some of these people have literally went to a prison camp because of their neighbors. They're so fucked it's not even funny. It's one of the lowest trust societies ever conceived by mankind. Yes, Albania is safe, and even during communist times Albania was safe, you won't get robbed and murdered randomly, but they won't invite you anywhere or care about your life story. They won't say hi to you even because it's weird to bother someone like that. Or I could give you a meme answer and say they're all stupid. Sure, they are. Not sure about the water/flour ratio but the dough needs to be soft and easy to form balls, which you flatten with a tortilla press. The griddle needs to be on medium-high heat but I dont know the exact temperature. You also need to flip them a few times, again I'm not sure the exact time or amount. There's many videos on youtube that show the exact process. Once you manage to cook a good tortilla, the rest are pretty easy, its not rocket appliances. Good luck.

I was in Albania last month and thought it was one of the best places Ive been overall and Ive been to many places. Albania doesnt have one thing theyre best at, but they have one of the best balances of positive things which is why I rank them high.
