I think good chance that the strategy or even the writing comes from the same people in Hunter's case. Dems are extremely desperate for a tough-talking "manly" figurehead to siphon away some of Trump's base, but they've yet to come close to being convincing because they're all dysgenic champagne socialist freaks. Walz tried the same schtick during the 2024 campaign, but it was so overwhelmingly pathetic that I think it was different people. Probably Walz got the B-Team Democratic strategists while Hunter and Newsome are connected enough to get what passes for their A-Team.
