>think for yourself!
>think critically!
>question everything!
>be skeptical!

This is what they told you in school. Like everything else in school it was brainwashing. Not because you shouldn't think for yourself etc but because these were all empty slogans, and because they brainwashed you to believe that this is about freestyling thinking, and just being contrarian and cynical. Meanwhile they suppress the tools for critical thinking, the tools of thought. So they tell you this to instill a false sense of being someone who thinks, so you won't rebel against the dumbing down and brainwashing they themselves are part of. It's just empty words, impotent contrarianism and impotent cynicism, which aren't contradictory at all to being gullible, unthinking and manipulated, on the contrary.

Every school I went to has taught the opposite. How is it that a eurotranny can go to a school that teaches you all of that bit still end up an emasculated ball washer?

Whenever we were given examples of how and when to exercise critical thinking, it was ALWAYS involving fringe ideas or disreputable figures. It was never a bureaucrat, or a mainstream religious figure, or a teacher.
>>
The mistake of telling someone to think for yourself, is believing everyone would be equally smart enough to recognize confirmation bias.
>>
And it's not just school but the mainstream media too. And most people here still have that brainwashing. I made a thread about it yesterday and literally all posters had the empty kneejerk opinion "you should be skeptical!". There is zero value to a form of skepticism which is just impotent contrarianism. And then you have all the people who believe that thinking ought to be freestyled. You have people who literally believe that philosophy is about having crackpipe thoughts. People think philosophy and fantasizing are the same thing. There are entire threads on /lit/ where people just freestyle and have crackpipe thoughts and they think they're talking philosophy.

What's your point? As I said, they don't actually teach you how to think for yourself, they just give you empty slogans that you should be skeptical etc.

School doesn't teach actual critical thinking, at all. They say they do, but they don't. Also, critical thinking is a vague bullshit term, prone to being misunderstood, most likely by design. Critical thinking is not the platitude they spout in school and the media, there's another very specific meaning of critical thinking, where it's synonymous with the Trivium. That's something you study. Not something innate, or something you freestyle, just having crackpipe thoughts, and it's not simply contrarianism or cynicism. The entire purpose of school is to suppress actual critical thinking, ie the Trivium, for the masses. They make you believe it isn't.
>>
>>539154211
No, critical thinking is something you study, ie the Trivium, it's not IQ.
>>
>>539154250
No. You shouldn't just pick up any random book and read it and think this is worthwhile, it's not. When people use the word "literacy" today they're not talking about actual literacy. Actual literacy is grammar, logic and rhetoric, which is suppressed for the masses. There's a difference between "reading" and reading, between "literacy" and literacy. Actual literacy requires a classical education, which includes the Trivium. Hardly anyone is actually literate today. There were actually more literate people in the 19th century. Reading can be done the wrong way, the way they teach in school, just programming, or it can be done the right way, which requires study of the Trivium. Reading without actual literacy is a waste of time and energy.

But this board is 99% coomers who don't care about anything at all. And they will keep believing that having a vague idea of impotent contrarianism is to think for yourself.

The thing is "critical thinking" isn't this vague platitude that most people still believe. That notion too comes from brainwashing. Actual critical thinking isn't just saying "I think this might be wrong". It's not freestyling. It's not crackpipe thinking. It's not something innate. And the term "critical thinking" is in itself very vague and prone to being misunderstood and misused. Actual critical thinking, actual thinking for yourself, is something you study, this is what a classical education is, the Trivium, and the entire purpose of schooling is to suppress this for the masses. A vast majority of people still think that thinking for yourself, questioning things, being skeptical etc is just this vague thing where you're just contrarian or cynical. It's not. That's my whole point. Just doing the thing where you go "I think this thing about Helen Keller might be wrong and I looked into it" is not critical thinking. The term "critical thinking" is a word trap, it's almost impossible to use that term without falling into the bullshit they want you to fall into. That's why I say the Trivium instead. That's the thing they don't want you to learn.

My point is that when they talk about critical thinking in school and the media it's just a platitude. But then there are books about "critical thinking", and this is a totally different meaning of that term. In this latter sense the term is synonymous with the Trivium. And it's probably not a coincidence that this latter sense or usage is this same very vague bullshit term, which they use a lot in school and the media. People are brainwashed in school and through the media that they are already thinking critically and that they don't need to study "critical thinking". It's an effective way of keeping people away from it. But again, this board doesn't give a shit one way or the other, fucking vapid pieces of shit, airheads.

Aw sweet. A Swedebro thread.
Is this going to be a "Swedebro has no theory of mind" episode or one of the ones where he just learned a thing yesterday and betrays very basic misunderstandings of the concept he tries to teach everyone?

You live in the former Eastern Bloc, which means you don't have the Prussian Education System. A lot of things are very different there. I'm talking about the West. The Eastern Bloc didn't abolish Euclid for example. People from the former communist countries always defend public school on this board. The Eastern Bloc hasn't dumbed down their masses to nearly the same extent, and the people aren't nearly as alienated. The difference between West and East is way more profound than people think.

stfu retard, a vast majority of posters on this board are deep in this brainwashing and have the kneejerk opinion that "you should be skeptical!" and by this mean nothing other than impotent contrarianism
