I'll give you homeless bums a hot tip. If you're in a state with liberal laws about renters rights (most are but some are better than others) beg for enough money to rent your local airbnb. One you rent it, even if it's just for a day or whatever, you get tenant rights. That means you can just stay. They have to do the entire eviction process on you, and in some states that can take a year or longer.
